BOOK DESCRIPTION: Gwen travels to Ireland to visit her cousin Findabhair, expecting a summer of backpacking, late nights, and the usual road trip adventures. But when Findabhair is kidnapped by the King of Faerie, Gwen must race to save her cousin before the rise of the Hunter's Moon, when the fairies need a human sacrifice.

MY REVIEW: Yes, it seems we're on a fairy kick here. I suddenly feel like a Fey addict. This first title in THE CHRONICLES OF FAERIE by Canadian author Melling is a fun story full of folklore, magic and romance. Her prose really paints a lush portrait of Ireland. American Gwen sets out to find her cousin, Findabhair, on her visit to the Emerald Isle after they sleep inside a fairy mound one night. The description says she is kidnapped but she was tricked by the King of Fairie, Finvarra, when he appeared to her in a dream. He asked if she wanted to go to his land and she accepted (he had also asked Gwen but she refused). The rest of the story deals with Gwen stepping out from the shadow of her stronger willed cousin to deal with whatever the fey tricksters send her way.

On her trek she encounters quite a bunch of characters, many of which will be needed to fight the battle at the story's climax. Gwen even finds love with Dara. There are many attributes to like in this tale, especially the group of seven who join together to fight the curse of the Hunter's Moon when one has to be sacrificed.Though the magic this story weaves is slower to build than other books about fairies out on the market (THE IRON KING and DARKLIGHT, especially), I liked it and will continue with the series.
