BOOK DESCRIPTION: Welcome to the Theatre Illuminata, where the actors of every play ever written can be found behind the curtain. They were born to play their parts, and are bound to the Theatre by The Book--an ancient and magical tome of scripts. Bertie is not one of them, but they are her family--and she is about to lose them all and the only home she has ever known.

MY REVIEW: It took a couple of chapters for me to fully get into this book, but once I did I thought it was wonderful. Bertie is our main character and the heroine, a child of the theatre where she was left behind as a child. When the story opens Bertie has caused some trouble and some of the adult directors want her to leave. Out of a cast of hundreds it appears Bertie is the only one who can leave this magical theatre. The only problem is she doesn't want to. The stage is quite literally her home--her bedroom is one of many scene changes, and the fairies fluttering around her head are her friends, as is Nate, the friendly pirate. With the help of others who want her to remain, Bertie crafts the idea she will "earn" her keep at the theatre by doing providing some valuable service. Directing sounds like a good idea. Can Bertie achieve this and remain in her home?

Do fairies fly? Bertie learns throughout her attempt at directing a play the true story of how she arrived at the theatre. She also loses someone she cares for deeply and wants to trust someone she still has feelings for since she was a child. Belief in one's self, trust, love, and growing up are all things our heroine must endure by the curtain's close. Except, the curtain may slide shut, but it is only the beginning to the next installment of this enchanting story. I never considered myself a fan of fairies until last year after reading some really great books. EYES makes my list of must read novels. And it has one of the most striking covers in the YA book world.
