BOOK DESCRIPTION: When Clare moves with her mother from London to Ravensmere, an historic English estate, she can't shake the feeling that the residents already know her, especially Mark, a maddeningly attractive biker. Clare also feels compelled to take midnight walks in Ravensmere's abandoned China Garden. Then her mother reveals that their own past is tragically linked to the estate. But when Clare discovers that Ravensmere is in grave danger, will she risk her future-and Mark's-to save it?

MY REVIEW: I found this book on clearance online and liked the blurb. I was thoroughly happy to have found it. Berry has created a richly detailed and interesting town named Ravensmere. Clare moves to the English estate with her mother the summer after completing her (American equivalent) senior year of high school. We learn Clare had a snotty boyfriend and has turned into someone her mother doesn't know all that well. Until the move.

It seems Clare's mother has kept family secrets from her. Clare learns she is a Kenward and her middle name is Rosamund--all puzzle pieces to the unraveling history of Ravensmere and the two families at its heart--the Kenwards and Alywards. Clare meets a young man, Mark, and though she thinks he is bullish, can't deny the physical attraction she feels pulling her to him.

This novel is rich with English customs, legends and lore. After completing it I wanted to live at Ravensmere and check out the China Garden. I enjoyed the lush details of the families histories and the mystery surrounding the Benison was very interesting. I did wish Mark's character had been flushed out a bit more since we learn a lot about Clare. Berry did a classy job of handling the love scene and made it romantic with the wedding ceremony and the joining of hands through the Wedding Ring rock.

RECOMMENDED: Yes. I am not sure teens seeking a fast paced story will take the time to bother deciphering the English terminology, but it is well worth the effort if they care to do so.
