Reading Much?

Our post this week have been low, but don't think we haven't been reading. We have. A LOT. We haven't posted reviews yet because many of these titles haven't been released yet and we'd rather wait until closer to the publication date. We've read Delirium by Lauren Oliver (2011), Hunger by Jackie Morse Kessler (October), The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff (September), Dangerous Neighbors by Beth Kephart (August), Grace by Elizabeth Scott (September), and Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly (October). What I can say are words like "amazing," "superb" and "engrossing" to describe them.  We will be getting into books we can immediately review this week. Meg will post her thoughts on Hex Hall and Crossing , and I'm reading The Pace and The Broken Lake . Caity has a bunch of Middle grade novels and one required title for school to finish. So this is our update. We're still here, busy reading and writing reviews. Hope everyo...

Waiting on Wednesday

We fell behind posting this week. There are so many interesting books on the publishing horizon we would like to showcase. This week we chose Black Hole Sun by David Macinnis Gill. Reading level: Young Adult Hardcover: 352 pages Publisher: Greenwillow Books (August 24, 2010) Book summary: Durango is playing the cards he was dealt. And it’s not a good hand. He’s lost his family. He’s lost his crew. And he’s got the scars to prove it. You don’t want to mess with Durango. Oh-oh, sounds goods! We loved Gill's first novel, Soul Enchilada . That book had us laughing and we enjoyed the author's clever twist on demons. Can you imagine a demon popping up in your passenger seat telling you he's come to repossess your car? That happens to Bug, the book's snarky heroine, when an unexpected guest appears next to her inside her dad's beloved Cadillac. Her interactions with her friends, allies and otherworldly creatures in this bizarre and humorous world kept ...

Teaser Tuesdays

Image
Teaser Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by  hosted by MizB of   ShouldBeReading .  Our teaser this week is from Beth Kephart's new novel, Dangerous Neighbors . "That night Katherine gave up trying to talk sense into Anna. That night she did not try to argue her twin sister out of her gargantuan joy; she did not try to save her. It was on New Year's Eve that Katherine decided to begin to look the other way on purpose, but this time without anger, without the intent to prove a point. She decided to stop protecting Anna, so that she might love her more truly."  (Page 94, ARC edition)

Shadow Bound by Erin Kellison

Image
Mass Market Paperback: 322 pages Publisher: Leisure Books (June 29, 2010) Book summary: When a demon breaches the barrier between death and life, the salvation of the world depends on the passions of a beautiful banshee just coming into her power and the man willing to use her to avenge the destruction of his family. My review: Kellison's debut novel was a wonderful book to read on the beach during my vacation. I was absorbed into Talia's world where shadows wrap themselves around her like a cloak and wraiths suck power from human victims. From the cover I first thought this was a paranormal YA until I read the sexy prologue and realized this was adult, but this could be a crossover read for older teens.  We first learn how Talia was conceived through an eerie meeting between a sickly artistic woman, Katherine, and the Fae creature we learn is actually Death. Katherine has been able to sense otherworldly beings and feels someone inside her room one night. De...
