Waiting on Wednesday

We fell behind posting this week. There are so many interesting books on the publishing horizon we would like to showcase. This week we chose Black Hole Sun by David Macinnis Gill.

Reading level: Young Adult
Hardcover: 352 pages
Publisher: Greenwillow Books (August 24, 2010)

Book summary: Durango is playing the cards he was dealt. And it’s not a good hand.

He’s lost his family.

He’s lost his crew.

And he’s got the scars to prove it.

You don’t want to mess with Durango.

Oh-oh, sounds goods! We loved Gill's first novel, Soul Enchilada. That book had us laughing and we enjoyed the author's clever twist on demons. Can you imagine a demon popping up in your passenger seat telling you he's come to repossess your car? That happens to Bug, the book's snarky heroine, when an unexpected guest appears next to her inside her dad's beloved Cadillac. Her interactions with her friends, allies and otherworldly creatures in this bizarre and humorous world kept us entertained until the very end. Loved the basketball scene too. With Black Hole Sun, we expect another well written and clever tale. Wonder what will happen to Durango? We'll find out when the book is published on August 24th.

Waiting on Wednesday was started by breaking the spine.
