March Author of the Month: L.M. Pruitt

Image
Since we messed up last month and missed our posting schedule, we've decided to continue making L.M. Pruitt Our Author of the Month. L.M. Pruitt ( website ) L.M. Pruitt has been reading since before she can remember, and writing nearly as long. She fell in love with New Orleans after spending one week there, and visits the city as often as her schedule permits--which isn't nearly often enough. She is the author of New Moon Rising, Shades of Gray, the first novel in the Jude Magdalyn series, Hole in the Wall, a Jude Magdalyn short, and Taken: A Frankie Post Novel. She is currently at work on Harvest Moon Rising, the next book in the Cari Gravier series. She makes her home in Florida with two cats--one smart, one an idiot--and a puppy with a tendency to chew everything.  Will There Be Another Jude? Lately I’ve had a lot of readers asking if I’ll be writing any more Jude novels. This is a valid question since the last release, Shades of Blood , was nearly six ...

Manga review: Blood+ Adagio, Volume 2

Image
Blood+ Adagio, Volume 2 (Blood+ Adagio #2)  by Kumiko Suekane Manga*Paperback, 164 pages Published September 1st 2009 by Dark Horse Comics (first published January 1st 2008) For the three hundred years that the Romanov dynasty has been in power, they have led Russia through an era of unprecedented peace and prosperity, but recent peasant uprisings and a sickly heir have destabilized this once-proud royal family. In a desperate move, the Romanovs have unknowingly employed one of Diva's original Chevalier - whose motives are not to cure the ailing Prince Alexei Romanov, but to create an army of perfect, blood-craving Chiropterans Using his influence to gain test subjects, this mysterious Chevalier has performed horrifying acts in the name of science, and he now has Hagi, Saya's Chevalier, in his clutches.  On the eve of the Russian revolution, it's up to an unseasoned and unsure Saya to save Hagi, destroy the Chiropteran experiments, and track down her murdero...

Manga review: Blood+ Adagio, Volume 1

Image
Blood+ Adagio, Volume 1 (Blood+ Adagio #1)  by Kumiko Suekane Manga*Paperback, 200 pages Published June 2nd 2009 by Dark Horse Comics (first published April 22nd 2006) On the eve of the Russian Revolution, our favorite Chiropteran-hunting duo masquerades as members of Tsar Nicholas Romanov's royal chamber orchestra. Saya begins to uncover some of the strange secrets of the Romanov royal family and, of course, finds some hideous Chiropteran beasts who are doing a little masquerading of their own. Despite being one of the Chiropteran "originals," Saya's devoted her life to eradicating the wilder, more vicious Chiropteran spawn who prey on humanity, and this short series embraces the same mix of action, humor, and horror. I adored the Blood+ anime series and ever since viewing it (multiple times), I've sought out whatever manga I could find. When I was able to pick up this book, I was thrilled. The artwork by Kumiko Suekane is wonderful. Delicat...
