Timespell by Diana Paz
YA fantasy/time travel
Paperback, First, 312 pages
Expected publication: April 1st 2013 by Rhemalda Publishing

In Timespell, the brash and impulsive Julia must team up with her sweet and straight-laced best friend, Angie, and the malicious and power-hungry Kaitlyn in order to keep the witch-like powers of her inheritance. But these powers come at a cost. The girls are bound to serve the Fates, and their first mission sends them back in time to Marie Antoinette’s Paris and eventually, into the chaos and war of the French Revolution.

About the author:
Diana Paz

Diana Paz writes books about magic, adventure, and romance. She was born in Costa Rica, grew up on Miami Beach, moved to Los Angeles in high school, and went to college in San Diego. Basically, she’s a beach bum. Diana graduated from California State University, San Marcos with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts. She loves old movies, epic fantasy, all kinds of music, and heading to the beach with a good book. Preferably sipping a highly sweetened iced coffee.

Timespell is a contemporary novel featuring fantastical characters who can travel back in time and wield powers. There are gypsies, fates, gods, a hot guy, arch enemies and historical details. That's Timespell and it's an intriguing, fun read for young adult readers.

Best friends and Daughters of Fate, Julia and Angie, need to find the third daughter through their special abilities in order to complete their trio. When they do find her they're not exactly thrilled. The third Daughter is Kaitlyn, their enemy and this girl is power hungry--the opposite of the others. The two best friends, aware of their powers since childhood, have joined together and share this cool telepathic link. When the trio joins, they receive their first assignment and it's incredible. They need to hinder mythological monsters (yep, monsters) from impacting time. There's a portal, mythological creatures and gods, revolutionary France and more.

And since this is a tale with three female teen protagonists, there is the typical teen girl behavoir. Bickering, jealousy, petty actions and betrayal to fill out this entertaining novel. I was impressed by all that author Diana Paz achieved in this first novel. Mixing historical moments along with contemporary girls with attributes of fantasy and mythology was quite a feat. I liked Timespell and recommend it whole heartedly. The pacing was constant, the trio kept things interesting, the monsters were creepy and the time travel aspect was very cool. Did I mention the hot guy named Ethan? Read Timespell and let it weave its timeless magic around you.

Cover comment:

Isn't this cover gorgeous? I love the blends of blues and purprles and her dress is to die for. I wonder if the other covers will feature the other two Daughters of Fate.

  1. Good question. I'm not sure where I'd travel. It would be interesting to visit places from when I was a child, to see how different they are from my memories.
