SYNOPSIS:

When Caleb Smith saved Francesca Hamilton from a nasty situation with her father, she was beyond grateful. Sure, it landed her in Caleb’s bed wearing his engagement ring, but neither of them took that seriously. It was a means to an end, and he was so sexy and exciting, she was enjoying the ride. It wasn’t Caleb’s fault her feelings were changing, leaving her wishing things between them were real rather than pretend. Caleb took the FBI’s assignment because he wanted to end the tyranny of a man who’d hurt the people he loved. Odds of success were slim and the danger high, but he knew the risks. Francesca didn’t and was completely in the dark about her family’s “business.” And the more time he spends with her, the harder he falls for the gorgeous blonde. But to finally get retribution, he’ll have to destroy her world…

EXCERPT
Caleb caught her gaze, and she found herself smiling. There was just something about him…

“Did I mention that I’ve been dreaming of you all week?” He touched her cheek with his fingertips, watching her reaction as he slowly drew them to her lower lip. She opened her mouth a little, stunned by her desire to taste his finger.

“Yeah?”

“Do you want to know what we did in my dreams?” His smile faded and the look on his face gave her an inkling.

“You’re scaring the shit out of me.” It was unnerving to be so affected by a man.

Caleb took her hand and tugged her close, until her breasts skimmed his chest. Tilting her chin up, she smelled martini on his breath. “I don’t scare you,” he said. “I make you feel things that scare you.”

Bull’s eye. Who was the analyst now? She’d never wanted someone this much in her entire life, and was trembling with want. Nervous, she licked her lips. “How do you know what I feel?”

His gaze dropped to her lips. “Because I’m feeling it, too.”

If he’d meant to trigger a panic attack, he couldn’t have chosen better words. She was frozen in place, not knowing how to respond, and it felt as if everyone in the entire ballroom was watching her have this meltdown.

Then Caleb tugged her hand, moving them through the ballroom floor. Unsure of where he was taking her and what he would do when they got there, Francesca found herself buttressing her flagging courage, unable to process guests approaching for conversation. She simply waved, and held onto Caleb’s hand, following, and marveling at his ability to ignore them with impunity.

He led her to the door closest to them, the solarium, a glass-ceiling room filled with exotic flowers and greenery. As soon as Caleb locked the door behind them, they were thrown into darkness. It took a moment before her eyes could adjust, but when they did, she saw they were alone and the stars were out.

Francesca suffered a moment of uncertainty, not knowing what to say, or do as the silence stretched out. When Caleb turned to face her, the tilt of his head caused his long hair and deep shadow to mask his expression, but his body language spoke volumes; hands hanging at his sides, poised on the balls of his feet.

It took him two strides to reach her, and a heartbeat to enfold her in his embrace. She sought his gaze, received his kiss, and it was gentle. So gentle. He held her as if fearing she’d break, and this care gave her courage to demand more. She wrapped her arms about his neck and pressed closer, opening her mouth for him. Caleb’s growl was low, and lasted the length of his breath. Then there was just the kiss. The glorious, deep, sensuous kiss that overwhelmed as he plundered he mouth, then withdrew, inviting her to reciprocate. Francesca had never been a more willing student.
