The best friends to lovers trope is one of my favorite types of books to read. When they're done well it makes it easy to love their tale. Sincerely, Carter by Whitney G. is a sweet, sexy, humorous love story and the audio version does the original material justice. In fact, I preferred the audio version. Listening to Joseph Discher and Jennifer O'Donnell narrate made the book come alive. Their performances touch upon the parts of the book I enjoyed the most--their backstory of their long friendship, the confusion they endure after they realize their feelings are changing, their individual strengths as their characters develop, and their special intimate moments.
A few parts seemed repetitive and their awakening to their developing romantic feelings for each other happened way too fast. This aspect wasn't developed enough so I had trouble believing this as mere insta-love. The story was helped by the inclusion of some of the letters they exchanged over time and set the tone for their charming tale, but I wished the change in their 'love' status had been treated as equally important and with time. The ending also came about too quickly. These were my thoughts concerning the book version. Interestingly enough, I didn't notice these things as much in the audio version, like I did while reading. I had two different experiences. The actors drew me in with their captivating performances and I felt as though I was listening into a couple recounting their love story.
