Touching Fate by Brenda Drake is a fast-paced, fun, and highly entertaining YA read. From page one consider me hooked. Writers know what an asset Ms. Drake has been in the writing community so getting to read her first novel was not only an honor but something I couldn't wait to do. First off, this novel's premise is unique and I enjoyed Aster's 'talent' with Tarot cards and changing fate. Reese is a nice guy (for someone dealing with a curse) and totally worthy of his instant fangirl-over status (that letter*sigh*). Having both characters narrate fills in a lot and helps readers create a fuller picture. The story had the added bonus of being really intense with the encroaching date of Reese's 'doomed' 18th birthday. Can we talk about the tension?
Overall, I really enjoyed Touching Fate. Magic, Gypsies, curses, fate and romance combined together keep readers not only engrossed but entertained.

About the Author
Brenda
Drake grew up the youngest of three children, an Air Force brat, and the
continual new kid at school. Her fondest memories growing up is of her
eccentric, Irish grandmother’s animated tales, which gave her a strong love for
storytelling. So it was only fitting that she would choose to write stories
with a bend toward the fantastical. When she’s not writing or hanging out with
her family, she haunts libraries, bookstores, and coffee shops, or reads
someplace quiet and not at all exotic (much to her disappointment).

I have the Greek Myth of the Fates on my wish list and have not had the chance to buy it yet. I like to read books that I think my teen neice would read so that I can recommend it to her. She is very picky as she is a teen. If I like it then I know that she will read it to. I think that she would like this one.
ReplyDeleteNo, I haven't read the Greek Myth of the Fates. It is on my TBR list for my winter read. I hibernate and read all winter because I hate the cold.
