Mia is a good girl, smart, driven, the pride of her hardworking parents. Ryder is an orphan, a songwriter, performer and a teen heartthrob. His life is a lie and Mia's is based on what her parents want for her. When these two meet as tutor and student, sparks fly, a story is concocted and soon true feelings emerge. 

Mia and the Bad Boy is a fun, flirty read, definitely great as a summer vacation book. I was reminded of the boys from One Direction while reading about Ryder's treatment of his fellow band mates. Told from both points-of-view, Ryder is immensely likable and Mia is incredibly sweet. There were parts where I would've liked to have seen more between this new couple, forced together by circumstances, while both try to deal with the pressing issue of time. Four weeks is not long enough for two people to really have a true relationship, especially with Ryder's popularity, so I understood the insta-love between them. 

Fast paced, some times things moved too fast for me, but I understood the quickness with the idea of a clock ticking away in the background. Ryder and Mia had some very cute scenes from their date to the fair and I even enjoyed their tutoring sessions filled with their flirty bantering. It was great to see Mia connect with the guy under the superstar facade because Ryder turned out to be a really nice guy. I'm also glad Mia embraced her real self, going after what she loved instead of settling for what her mother thought best. Even though this might seem like a book for tweens, because of the implied sexual relationship between the couple, I would recommend this for mature readers. Leave reality at the door and jump on in!

Lisa Burstein is a tea seller by day and a writer by night. She received her MFA in Creative Writing from the Inland Northwest Center for Writers at Eastern Washington University and is glad to finally have it be worth more than the paper it was printed on. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her very patient husband, a neurotic dog and two cats.

She wrote her first story when she was in second grade. It was a Thanksgiving tale from the point of view of the turkey from freezer to oven to plate. It was scandalous.
