Love comes in many varied forms. There is the love of
family, love of country, and love of chocolate. But for Jocelynn Drake, one
truly treasured love is the love of a good story. This Midwestern native spends
the majority of her time lost in the strong embrace of a good book. When she’s
not hammering away at her keyboard, frowning at her monitor, or curled up with
a book, she can usually be found cuddling with her cat Demona, walking her dog
Max, or flinging curses at the TV while playing a video game. Outside of books,
cats, and video games, she is completely enamored of Bruce Wayne, Ezio
Auditore, travel, tattoos, explosions, fast cars, and Anthony Bourdain (but
only when he’s feeling really cranky).

Our reviews in the series: Angel's Ink (book #1) | Dead Man's Deal (book #2)
Oh Gage, you had so much promise. I really liked your character, the setting of seedy Low Town and the imposing Towers, and I especially liked your co-workers Trixie and Bronx (and the cat too). A tattoo artist who mixed magic into his inks and used to be a warlock made you a man with an interesting past and a very promising future. Here's Gage: in one hand a tattoo gun, the other a wand. Cool. So what happened? Demon's Vengeance is comprised of the last three novellas in Gage's series, The Asylum Tales. As separate stories, they hold up, but I'm afraid as a whole and as a substitute for the final book, it didn't work for me.
I'm a fan of this series and wondered what was going on with the next book. When I saw novellas scheduled for release, I figured they had to do with sales. As a final book, Demon's Vengeance was kind of messy. I enjoyed Demon's Vow and Demon's Fury on their own but Inner Demon seemed rushed and incomplete. The ideas presented were interesting and held promise. Still, I expected more. I really wanted to see Gage grapple with his 'evil' side, especially after his childhood with his abusive mentor Simon. Trixie had the power to root him in all that is good, but still, being bad could have had its moments. I wanted to see Gage pull a Jack Nicholson. He had enough reasons.
And what was up with that Epilogue? Let's watch Gage prepare for some big butt battle with Lilith (and he was prepared, check out the new tattoo he was sporting on his chest). Then nothing. The end. What? There were many things left unanswered and I felt let down. Gage didn't get the proper send-off he deserved. Where was his HEA with Trixie? What about the comment the demon said about Gideon in the future? Does Gage take down The Towers and his warlock teacher? (It was nice to see the teacher side of Gideon for a whopping few minutes.)
Teasing us is not fair. This once happy fangirl will never know what happens. :(
