Blog tour: Breakable (Contours of the Heart #2) by Tammara Webber + review

New Adult contemporary romance
Paperback/eBook, 368 pages
Published May 6th 2014 by Penguin Berkley

He was lost and alone. Then he found her.
And the future seemed more fragile than ever.

As a child, Landon Lucas Maxfield believed his life was perfect and looked forward to a future filled with promise — until tragedy tore his family apart and made him doubt everything he ever believed.

All he wanted was to leave the past behind. When he met Jacqueline Wallace, his desire to be everything she needed came so easy…

As easy as it could be for a man who learned that the soul is breakable and that everything you hoped for could be ripped away in a heartbeat.

[Breakable is Lucas's story - a companion novel to Easy, both prequel + the story of Easy from his perspective. Breakable is NOT a sequel, but I strongly recommend reading Easy (which can be read as a stand-alone, if you wish) first.]

There's a saying that there are two sides to every story. Breakable is Landon Lucas Maxfield's story. Lucas is one of my Top Three favorite male characters in New Adult contemporary romance. Many readers along with me fell for him in Easy (my review) as he pursued Jacqueline Wallace. Easy was her story, Breakable is all his and I was stoked to be able to read it early.

Some may wonder why the author wrote a prequel and incorporated the first book into another by giving readers the main male character's pov. I understand why completely. Easy is Jackie's story and there is so much about Lucas we still didn't know about or understand. Why does he go by his two names? At times, he did come across as two people in Easy. Now we can know why. Lucas is a complex young man, still dealing with his traumatic past and the loss of his mother. He may tell himself he's dealing, but we know he isn't. Until he sees and later hooks up with Jackie. With her, he sees chances, opportunities, and hope that maybe he can be happy, he can succeed, he can be loved.

But in order to 'get' the Lucas of the present, we have to comprehend the 'Landon' of the past. We learn about his early years, how he used to be, his educational life, his family, hobbies, sports and love of drawing. We see how he changed as he grew up and what molded him, especially how his mom's loss took its toll on him and how he beat himself up over it.

I won't divulge anything else about the novel. I can't. If you loved Easy, it's a no brainer to pick up Breakable. Tammara Webber shows us what a nuanced and multi-layered guy Lucas truly is. As his story unravels, hop on for an incredibly moving love story between two characters-each with their own baggage-as they find their way to each other. Sexy, romantic, deep and profound, Breakable had me from the very first line. Wait, did I say romantic? Oh yes, Lucas is hot and the romance is even more toe curling and heart pounding from his perspective.

Webber has done it again. Made me laugh, cry, feel the gamut of emotions as I wished I could trade places with Jacqueline and spend a day with Landon Lucas Maxfield. If only! Tight writing, fluid pacing, incredibly realistic characters and situations, Breakable is the other version of the romantic tale I fell for in Easy. How incredibly easy it was to fall in love all over again.
