Book Description:

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the story of Grant, the sexy playboy who first captured readers’ hearts in Fallen Too Far.

When Harlow Manning’s rocker father goes on tour, he sends her to Rosemary Beach, Florida, to live with her half-sister, Nan. The problem: Nan despises her. Harlow has to keep her head down if she wants to get through the next nine months, which seems easy enough. Until gorgeous Grant Carter walks out of Nan’s room in nothing but his boxer briefs.

Grant made a huge mistake getting involved with a girl with venom in her veins. He’d known about Nan’s reputation, but still he couldn’t resist her. Nothing makes him regret the fling more than meeting Harlow, who sends his pulse racing. Yet Harlow wants nothing to do with a guy who could fall for her wicked half-sister—even if there are no strings between Grant and Nan. Grant is desperate to redeem himself in Harlow’s eyes, but did he ruin his chances before he even met her?

Oh boy, who does despicable hunky bad boys seeking redemption the way Abbie Glines does? If you love Grant from the other books in this series, you'll adore him by the end (after a few bouts of wanting to wring his neck). Playboy Grant has finally figured out exactly what kind of relationship he has with man eater Nan-a non-existent one. What they share is not love, it's lust. He has seen the other guys he knows in his circle of friends and rock stars fall in love big time and their dependence on another person scares him.

Does Grant have what is necessary to have a healthy, successful relationship? He doesn't think so. We get to see him volley back and forth with his thoughts, his emotions, his physical reaction to his friend Kiro's daughter, Harlow. What he feels is different, after all, she is different and he knows it. The problem is Harlow is Nan's half-sister and whenever Grant makes a mistake, fate has a way of making sure she finds out about it. Grant begins to develop true feelings for Harlow, but with Nan using him, Kiro trying to do the right thing for his daughter, and Grant messing up on his own, the reader wonders if Grant deserves someone as nice and good as Harlow.

The bad boy falling for the nice guy is a trope which is used a lot in New Adult contemporary today. There's so much available one has to wonder if there are other types of characters out in the fictional world. I suspect readers will like Grant and despite wanting to throttle him over his occasional bouts of stupidity, will also root for him to accept he has to work for Harlow's love but he is deserving.

I enjoyed Take A Chance. This was my first Abbie Glines book so I wasn't familiar with many of the names mentioned in the story from other novels. Grant's story, though formulaic, is packed with raw and realistic emotion and plenty of sexy scenes to keep an invested reader's attention.
