For Violet Lee, a chance encounter on a darkened street draws her into a world beyond her wildest imaginings, a timeless place of vast elegance and immeasurable wealth – of beautiful mansions and lavish parties – where a decadent group of friends live for pleasure alone. A place from which there is no escape… no matter how hard Violet tries.

Yet all the riches in the world can’t mask the darkness that lies beneath the gilded surface, embodied in the charismatic but dangerous Kaspar Varn.

Violet and Kaspar surrender to a passion that transcends their separate worlds – but it’s a passion that comes at a price.

Autumn’s been dealing with a lot -- her grandmother is dead and the whirling social scene of London in which she was brought up is a world away. To make matters worse, she’s shunned and condemned at her new school, all because of the swirling marks on her skin that prevent her from blending in.

At school, the appearance of a handsome young man sends her world in turmoil. He shares the same markings as Autumn, and knows many of the secrets she’s tried to keep hidden. His arrival at school thrusts her into the limelight, with the unexpected popularity bringing danger as her secrets threaten to come to light. And, Autumn keeps dreaming of a human girl who is about to be seduced by a very dark Prince. Time is her enemy, and she must figure out how to save the human before it is too late.

AUTUMN ROSE continues Abigail Gibbs phenomenal Dark Heroine series with an alluring story of romance, hidden secrets, and captivating magic.

Dinner With a Vampire (The Dark Heroine, book one) was an intriguing yet at times a frustrating read. The beginning sucked me in the force of a strong vacuum but other spots, particularly when  the main character Violet is forced to live with the vampires and the brooding, immature Kaspar, had my eyes rolling. For vampires, I found this bunch some of the most childish with behavior unbecoming the vamps I'm accustomed to reading. Still, I was intrigued by Violet's plight and wondered how she would fare.

I did have a problem with the so-called 'love story' aspect of this novel and cringe each time I see the sticker on the cover proclaiming this "The Sexiest Romance You'll Read This Year." I didn't think of Kaspar's bullish, brutish and oftentimes over the top antics as anything remotely swoon worthy. I am probably in the minority here but I was not convinced by him. Made uncomfortable? Oh yes. Romantic is not what I'd call Kaspar's threat to force himself on Violet Lee. I felt for Violet at times but thought her whole suffering from Stockholm Syndrome as too easy a reason to 'excuse' her behavior. Still, since she is a young girl, I gave her the benefit of my doubt. I found the idea of "Heroines" a fascinating one and admit this was one of the main reasons I continued to read.

All in all, Dinner With a Vampire was far from a perfect read. There were problems with grammar, continuity and development, but other aspects like an interesting concept kept my interest. The beginning was the novel's strongest point and coupled with an intriguing premise, I wonder how the rest of the series will pan out. As a work which was popular and subsequently discovered from Wattpad, Dinner With a Vampire exemplifies a debut novelist lauded by many, hyped by its publisher, and from what I have read, finding mixed reviews from its readers. As a vampire fan for decades, I did expect better but the work shows promise.

Whereas Dinner With a Vampire featured Violet Lee and Kaspar as the main couple, Autumn Rose is all about its namesake, Autumn Rose and Prince Fallon. She is a Sage and has one year to complete her education. This story had a lot of worldbuilding, which was necessary, and improved upon the world the author created in the first book. I'm thrilled to see the character development in both Autumn and Fallon. They are not only interesting and complex characters, but also likable (and yes, the Prince rightly deserves the title "swoon worthy"). The story flowed much more smoothly than its predecessor and its subject was also more intriguing. I can now say I look forward to the next title in this series.

AUTHOR BIO:

Abigail Gibbs was born and raised in deepest, darkest Devon, England. She is studying for a B.A. in English at the University of Oxford and considers herself a professional student, as the real world has yet to catch up with her.

Her greatest fear is blood and she is a great advocate of vegetarianism, which logically led to the writing of her first novel, The Dark Heroine: Dinner with a Vampire. She splits her time between her studies, stories, and family, and uses coffee to survive all three.
