How one handles grief is an underlying theme in Love and Relativity by Rachel Wade. This is one of those stories which just wouldn't quit until it embedded itself in my head and ultimately, in my heart. The characters are so well defined, their dialogue realistic, their actions flirty and fun, they seemed more like people I knew the longer I read.
Melanie is a college student dealing with the loss of her sister the previous year. Jackson is the town flirt, a bad boy of sorts based on his crazy antics and fighting ways. These two share a past and a secret which always seems to keep one within easy distance of the other. No matter which girl Jackson is flirting with or takes home, Melanie is never far from his mind.
These two grew so quickly on me. Jackson may be a player but his feelings for Melanie are true. It's obvious whenever he tries to coax her to admit her feelings for him. Can I just say one thing about Jackson? I usually keep my fan girling out of my reviews but I can't here. I would have loved a guy like Jackson when I was in college. Sexy, fun, yet watchful and protective of the woman he secretly loves--wow! And he's so darn gorgeous too. One just wants to tell them to stop the playacting and finally get together, but I admit I would miss their playful banter and their incredible chemistry. The author took her time before revealing the secret they share, entertaining us and showing the reader what these two individuals were like on their own and how they sizzled when in contact with each other. Their circle of friends from Melanie's best friend, Whitney, to Jackson's closest buds, also grew on me.
Love and Relativity realistically depicts college-aged young adults including all of their untapped enthusiasm, the partying, the need for fun, while grounding an amazing cast around an equally intense couple. Falling for Jackson and Melanie includes liking their friends too, and well, what can I say? I enjoyed every single second of this book.

Cover comment:
As anyone who reads either YA and NA romance, this couple is used often on covers. I may grow tired of seeing this stock photo on other books, but for this one I didn't mind. I easily imagined Jackson and Melanie looking like them. The boat and water only adds to the island life setting of the book. I like it, even though I'm not crazy about the font.
