Jennifer Faye is a two-time RT Book Reviews TOP PICK author. Maybe that’s partly due to the fact that she has spent most of her life with her nose in one book or another. It was only natural that she dreamed of becoming a romance writer and spinning the tales of the imaginary people running around in her mind. But first life took her on a couple of detours. Refusing to give up on her dreams, she finally succeeded in getting her name on a book cover. She currently resides in Pennsylvania with her very, very patient husband, one amazing daughter (the other remarkable daughter has flown the coop to chase her own dreams) and two spoiled rotten cats. When she’s not glued to her laptop writing another contemporary romance (which isn’t often) or enjoying some family time, she loves to get lost in a good book, cross-stitch, embroider, quilt, knit, watch hockey (go Pittsburgh Penguins!), and garden. Q: How did you journey to become a romance author begin?
A: As far back as I can remember, I wanted to be a writer. I wrote short stories in elementary school and passed them around the lunch table. When I was a teenager, I read my first Harlequin. And that was it for me. I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up—be a Harlequin author. And after a few detours, I’m living my dream and exceedingly happy.
Q: Why do you write romance?
A: It’s what I love to read, so why not do what I love? I’m a total romantic. A story has to have romance somewhere in it if it’s going to draw me in. Sure I like suspense and mystery too, but it’s got to have a romantic angle in there to hook me.
Q: Could you summarize your latest release?
A: SNOWBOUND WITH THE SOLDIER is a reunited love story. It’s about two people who were young lovers torn apart by a huge secret that left the hero, Jason, lost and feeling very isolated. Not knowing how to deal with the news, he breaks up with fiancé, Kara, and heads off to the army. Now seven long years later, Jason has returned to claim an important piece of his legacy, The Greene Summit Resort, but Kara works there and knows that after everything that went down between them, there’s no way they can bridge the gap that stands between them. Or can they? Can love conquer all?
Q: What scene did you enjoy writing the most?
A: You mean I can only pick one? This is tough but if I can just pick one, it’s be when Kara and Jason get snowed in a mountain cabin, well it’s a bit bigger than a cabin, more like a log home. And it seems this serious, reserved Army vet has a roommate…a little black cat. I had a blast writing the scenes with the cat and wish I could have given her more space in the story as I love animals and this particular kitty is based on a very special cat that my daughter and I rescued.
Here’s a snippet with Sly, the cat:
“When did you get a cat?”
“I didn’t.”
She glanced across the room, finding the aforementioned feline sitting on the coffee table. Kara couldn’t help but smile as the sleek feline let out a big yawn, showing off its pink tongue. “Are you going to try to tell me there isn’t a black cat sitting across the room, staring at us?”
His forehead creased. “Of course there’s a cat. But I didn’t get her. She just made herself at home.”
“So it’s a girl. And let me guess, she was hungry and you started feeding her.”
He shrugged a shoulder. “Something like that.”
So the curmudgeon wasn’t as hard-hearted as he wanted to let on. “What’s her name?”
“Sly.”
A kitty with a name was a kitty with a permanent home.
“Sly? Hmm…what kind of a name is that for a girl cat?”
“For a person with a stuffed bear named Bubbles, I wouldn’t be casting any stones.”
Kara, feeling childish, stuck her tongue out at him. His blue eyes grew round and his pupils dilated….
Q: What’s your “guilty pleasure”?
A: Lindt White Chocolate Truffles. *licks lips* But then again most any chocolate makes me smile. :-)
Q: If you were a color what would you be and why?
A: Pink! It’s romantic. Understanding. Nurturing. And if you’re wondering, yes, I looked up the definition of pink. It’s strange but true that colors have meanings. And the best part is the deeper the hue of pink, the more passionate the color. ;-)
Q: What book is next on your agenda?
A: My third release, SAFE IN THE TYCOON’S ARMS, will be out March 2014. It’s a story of two people learning to love again. It starts off in the most precarious of positions and goes from there. I wasn’t so sure my editor was going to go for the opening scene but she loved it and so did I. :-) Add in a New York City landscape, undeniable attraction, glamour and some humor and you’ve got Kate and Lucas’s story.
And I’m currently working on my fourth release but the details have yet to be hammered out on it so I’m going to keep it under my hat for now. But I’m really, really excited about it. ;-)
