The Posse by Tawdra Kandle
Contemporary romance
ebook, 174 pages
Published July 3rd 2013 by Hayson Publishing

Being a widow at the age of forty-four was never in Jude Hawthorne’s plans. After her husband’s death, she’s left with her family’s beach restaurant and two nearly-grown children. The last thing she’s looking for is another chance at love.

However, if her husband’s best friends, the Posse, have anything to say about it, love is just what she’s going to get. The Posse is determined to take care of Jude, and when they decide the best way to do that is for one of them to sweep her off her feet, three begin to vie for her affections. But only one can reach her heart.

In a story of friendship, loss and second chances, Jude will learn her life is far from being over.

Jude is a widow with two college-aged kids and a close group of her husband's friends who call themselves "the posse." As the story unfolds, we learn the posse has recently released Daniel's ashes and have gathered together to remember their friend who died from cancer and to talk about his widow. They promised their childhood friend they'd all take care of Jude but maybe, just maybe, one of them should step forward and try dating her, you know, really try taking care of her. As Jude tries to live every day to its fullest, take care of her beachfront restaurant, talk with her kids, and keep track of how her husband's dream bed & breakfast project is finishing up, she has no idea Daniel's friends are trying to literally keep their promise.

The Posse is a refreshing read featuring mature adults, longtime friendships, hidden feelings, love, remembrance, secrets and second chances at love. Jude is a believable woman, admirable and strong. Waking up everyday at four to open her restaurant and keep going on with life, romance and a relationship is the farthest things from her mind. But fate has a sneaky way of butting into people's lives at times. One of the posse, Logan, doesn't see his attempt at dating Jude as an 'attempt' to honor Daniel, he views it as a chance.

Tawdra Kandle's writing wraps the reader in a warm blanket, letting the story and characters unfold in a realistic manner. There are a few surprises along the way and some steamy scenes. It was refreshing to read about older people in romantic fiction and found myself rooting for Jude and Logan. Told through third person, we really get a full-rounded look at this group of close-knit friends and family, including a couple who help Jude out at her restaurant. Looking for a sweet, realistic, touching romance? Pick up a copy of The Posse and enjoy anywhere--at the beach, in a bubble bath, anywhere.

Cover comment:
This cover is pretty with its dreamy sunrise/sunset palette of colors. Since the setting is a beach town, it's a really nice image and a refreshing break from some of the typical romance covers featuring bare chested men embracing women in gowns or hardly any clothes.
