Reaping Me Softly by Kate Evangelista
YA paranormal*Paperback, 220 pages
Expected publication: October 30th 2012 by Omnific Publishing
Ever since a near-death-experience on the operating table, seventeen-year-old Arianne Wilson can see dead people. Just as she’s learned to accept her new-found talents, she discovers that the boy she’s had a crush on since freshman year, Niko Clark, is a Reaper.
At last they have something in common, but that doesn’t mean life is getting any easier. All while facing merciless bullying from the most powerful girl in school, Arianne’s world is turned upside down after Niko accidentally reaps the soul of someone she loves. This sends them both into a spiral that threatens to end Arianne’s life. But will Niko break his own Reaper’s code to save her? And what would the consequences be if he did?
About the author:
Kate Evangelista
When Kate Evangelista was told she had a knack for writing stories, she did the next best thing: entered medical school. After realizing she wasn't going to be the next Doogie Howser, M.D., Kate wandered into the Literature department of her university and never looked back. Today, she is in possession of a piece of paper that says to the world she owns a Literature degree. To make matters worse, she took Master's courses in creative writing. In the end, she realized to be a writer, none of what she had mattered. What really mattered? Writing. Plain and simple, honest to God, sitting in front of her computer, writing.

Review:
I first have to say the cover for Reaping Me Softly is exquisite. Then I will say I loved the story even more than the cover. Kate Evangelista has written an engrossing paranormal story which had me laughing, oohing, swooning and totally believing main character Arianne's escapades. I'm so glad the author included another point-of-view, that of Arianne's crush, Niko. As an avid reader of YA paranormal, many times I'm left wondering about the main male characters. Not here. I liked both Arianne and Niko, their rapport, and so much more. I also enjoyed how the author created her own myth in the world of reapers and aptly described so much of Niko's world in vivid ways that I easily imagined. Arianne's ability to see the dead was very believable, adding another layer to the story's conflict.
What I also have to mention in my review is Kate Evangelita's writing--her pacing was smooth, her dialogue spot on and emotional, and I grew to admire and love her metaphors. She truly captured a natural modern youthful essence in her characters. Reaping Me Softly is touching, sweet, different and a fun YA read.
Rating: 4.5
Cover comment: Gorgeous. My only comment is that Arianne's hair is described by Niko as being red, with orange and yellow highlights.
Book source: I received a promtional e-book in return for my honest review.
Wait, so is it 2 POVs? Because then that is awesome! I always read the girl's side and it makes me not swoon for the love-interest and if there is a 2nd POV it would make everything WORK!
