Hello, Reader Girls! Thank you for having me on your site.

My road to publication, if I’m being honest about it, started decades ago. I’ve wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember, ever since I started crawling into bed at night with a notebook and a pen when I was a teenager. I had wonderful teachers who encouraged me to write, and in college, I decided that as soon as I graduated, I was going to do whatever it took to become a working writer. I did several magazine and newspaper internships while in college, and one week after graduation, I moved to New York City with three girlfriends. A few months (and several “Devil Wears Prada” moments) later, I got a job at Glamour magazine. I had wonderful bosses who let me start writing for them right away (in addition to doing the expected assistant stuff like fetching coffee and making copies) and while it may have been just tiny stories or even captions at first, I was hooked! After a few years as a magazine editor, I decided to try writing full time, and for nearly fifteen years, I’ve made my living writing for magazines, newspapers, and websites.

But I always ultimately wanted to write novels, so four years ago, when I was just a few weeks pregnant with my first daughter, I started HOW LUCKY YOU ARE. I had actually just finished the first draft of another novel, but I simply wasn’t in love with it, so when I started over, I went with a topic that is dear to me: women’s friendships. I’d noticed, in the course of becoming a wife and a mother, that our friendships change as we get older and take on new roles, and I wanted to explore how three old friends would navigate their friendship when their lives took very different turns. It took me a couple of years to write the story, and just before I gave birth to my second daughter, I signed with my wonderful agent. We sold the book a few months later, and believe it or not, that’s when the real work started! My insightful editor helped me push the story to the next level, and I think that the final product is an honest, heartfelt look at adult friendships.

My ultimate goal with my writing is to explore the ways that women relate to the people in their lives. I hope that anyone who reads HOW LUCKY YOU ARE will close the book feeling grateful for the life they have—and the good friends in it!

Thank you for having me!
