Review:
I will first say I did not read the first book in this series, Seer, and after finishing Demons, I didn't need to (even though my curiosity was piqued about past events). Demons is a pleasant book, heavy on the romance between Kate, a Seer, and her Guardian, Patrick. They have done what many Seers/Guardian partners have not done in the past: fallen in love. On a side note, even though their romance was depicted as sweet, when I learned Patrick was older, like two hundred and twenty years old, a certain ick factor came into play for me. He looks like a teenager but an immortal that old falling for an eighteen year old?
The idea of a "seer" was interesting and I liked Kate to a certain extent, especially her ability to see auras. She was nice despite her inability to listen to those around her trying to help keep her alive. The Demon Lord wants her for some reason and has sent his henchmen to grab her. The story itself is intriguing and discovering that immortals can die was a new twist. The action took awhile to begin but I did get a complete picture of what Katie's home life with her grandparents and younger twin sisters was like.
I found some of Patrick's Guardian friends to be a bit over the top and did not care for Katie's dependence on Patrick. Overlooking these, I continued reading and liked the story. The writing flowed, the pacing was slow but picked up, and the paranormal aspects kept my interest. I usually like my main heroines to be a bit stronger and independent and I didn't connect with Katie. Overall, Heather Frost has created an interesting story with some predictability and a load of twists to keep anyone reading.
