The skull was approximately the size of a baby’s head and shone with mystical brilliance. She reached into the glass case and placed both her hands on either side of the skull. An overwhelming power surged through her body. For a very brief moment, the spheres appeared and hovered around the glass case as if to convey a message.
Aislinn watched one of the spheres hover over the case while another hummed around her head. She nodded—the message in her mind suddenly clear. She looked at the dealer. “I want to buy it.”
He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture betraying his uncertainty. He glanced at the skull almost as though seeking approval. “Young lady, I have other customers waiting. As you know, the price is—”
“I know the price. You want five thousand dollars for it. I want it.” She had no idea why she wanted the skull so badly and thought of her savings that would be eaten up by such a foolish extravagance. To indulge in such a purchase was totally out of character, yet she could not fight the feelings that compelled her.
“I’ll agree only if you can pay cash or by approved debit card,” he told her hesitantly. “And that’s providing I’m able to reach the verification center. The service only operates a few hours a week.”
She nodded—her determination to buy the skull overriding any other consideration. “I can pay with my debit card for both items,” she said, removing the card from her wallet and handing it to him. The dealer paused before lifting the phone to call for approval. She had the distinct impression that he didn’t really want to sell the skull.
The dealer inspected her signature on the card. “You know, I almost hate to let it go. It’s been my companion for many years.”
“How did you come by it?” she asked.
“An old woman left it to me. She was a very dear friend.”
“Then why do you have it on display?”
“I’m getting on in age and have no family. I would hate to see it fall into the wrong hands and hoped the skull would point me to the rightful future owner.”
“How could it tell you that?”
“It can. Would you please place your hands around the skull again?”
She complied and gasped when she noticed her hands glow and become almost transparent. It was almost as if a torch illuminated the flesh from beneath.
The dealer stepped back as light enveloped her and gasped. “It seems I’ve found the rightful owner. You may have the skull. I will not sell it.”
About Diana Kemp: Toronto native Diana Kemp is a multiple award-winning screenwriter and author with one hundred and thirty film festivals and screenwriting competition awards/placings to her credit. She is the co-writer of an NRL (Naval Research Lab) documentary (http://www.nrl.navy.mil/media/videos/nrl-extended-video) produced by David Bellino of Second Wind Films.

About Gabriella Bradley: Gabriella Bradley lives amidst rugged mountains. She more than often has a grizzly in her backyard searching for food. Other critters that visit on a regular basis are cougars, coyotes, squirrels, raccoons.
She has been a writer all of her life, though only ventured into erotic works in 2003. The Samsara Chronicles was born through psychic channeling. Many of the scenes in these books were inspired by David—possibly a writer during his life, a guide from beyond that visited Gabby. During the course of his visits, he told her to involve Diana.
Gabby’s hobbies include hiking, gardening, swimming, sewing, embroidery. Favorite movies are old timers like Gone with the Wind, Spartacus etc. Favorite music is Abba. Besides all that, she owns and directs a busy company and its staff.

Review: Covenant continues with Aislinn and Dylan's story from book two, Nadir. She sees the colored auras on everyone now and knows to stay away from those who have a green aura. One such person chases Aislinn as she is on her way to work. Knowing this man is evil she is able to get away on the skytrain in time. It is the day before Christmas break and Aislinn wants to get a present for Dylan who she regards as her boyfriend even if they've only known each other a short time.The antique store scene was interesting and for Aislinn very lucrative. She leaves the store with two very important items, one is for herself, the other for Dylan. The couple spend a nice Christmas Eve together before leaving to visit her parents the next day.
Christmas Day proved quite eventful for Aislinn and Dylan. We finally see her burgeoning power and the special connection she has to Dylan is tested as well. This entire chapter focused wholly on Aislinn and Dylan and questions from the other books are finally being addressed and answered. It was nice to see Aislinn asking questions, especially to the Antiquitas (the voices she hears), and being totally honest with Dylan. The crystal skull and trinket box were intriguing items to add to the story and finding out exactly what Aislinn and Dylan must do to save the world only enriched their tale more.
As much as I liked this installment, there were times when the dialogue sounded too formal or awkward. Some responses seemed long winded without any action where I would expect something. All in all, now that Aislinn and Dylan have been given their mission, the Samsara Chronicles can only get better as the impending war with the elementals intensifies.
Rating: 3.5
