Spotlight On: Play Me by Jennifer Probst

Taking The Challenge...by Jennifer Probst

Many months ago, I picked up a short erotic novella by Rebecca Royce entitled One Night With a Wolf. I loved the short sassiness and finished it in record time. Then discovered it was one in a Decadent series by various authors termed 1Night Stand. I quickly read a few more, then tweeted a few complements out to the world.

A few authors popped up immediately and said I should write one for the series. I thanked them and went on with my work.

But the idea intrigued me.

So, I researched the line, read a few more, and brainstormed. I am rarely apt to dismiss a challenge. And when someone suggests I write something specific, I view it as a unique test to my writer’s ego.

I took a week, brainstormed, and wrote the story. Contacted the savvy editor of the series. Waited.

And sold.

Now, things usually don’t happen that fast for me, but it was the right time and place and I was in between projects. A short, erotic series nibbled at my creative muse and I refused to ignore the voice.

I adored writing about the Steele Brothers in Catch Me, Play Me, and the upcoming Dare Me. But what I adored most was stretching my creative muscles and reaching outside my comfort zone. Whether it be a short story, essay, or a genre switch, sometimes we need to shake things up as writers.

Have you ever written or read a story due to a challenge? What was your experience? Come share with me! And don’t forget to check out my newest release, Play Me. Here’s a blurb to whet your appetite.

Professional gambler Sloane Keller is tired of dating weak willed men and longs to meet a man who challenges her dominant personality and forces her to submit. As the Queen of Cards, she’s used to making her own rules and craves the excitement of Vegas. But her inner heart cries out for someone who can be her match, both inside the casino and in the bedroom.

As the new dealer in town, Roman Steele is burnt out on women looking for a quick penny and a man to follow. He craves a woman with fire in her soul and a keen intellect who can challenge him. When his brother recruits Madame Eve to help, Rome is amazed at the complicated woman he gets to spend the night with. But when the evening is over, will she be gutsy enough to offer him forever?

Don’t forget - stalking is always encouraged. For real.
