An
 interview with Clarissa Yip
RG: When did you know you wanted to be a writer and why did you pick the romance genre?

CY: I've ALWAYS loved romance, since the very first time I stole my sister's books. I've been writing since I was a kid but had never thought to publish professionally until I had moved to Hawaii and decided that I wanted to actually get out of my shell and take some risks. Writing made me happy, almost as much as hanging out at the beaches, studying the blue-green waters, watching swaying palm trees, and smelling the soapy scent of the ocean. Okay, cupcakes make me happy too.

RG: Where does the inspiration for your stories come from?

CY: Everywhere! Sometimes my muse will run buck wild, sometimes she'll go on strike and be really quiet, but I never know when ideas will strike.

RG: What qualities do you believe make a true hero/heroine?

CY: A true hero is someone who may be tough and flawed, but has a pure heart and is brave enough to conquer fear and save the woman he loves. A true heroine is someone who is strong and doesn't need a man to fight her battles but will be what the hero needs to breathe and survive. Well, in my world anyway. What does that say about me?

RG: Which writers inspire you?

CY: There are WAY too many to list. But mostly writers that 'wow' me. Guess that's not an easy thing...

RG: What have been some of your favorite books and why?

CY: I love JR Ward's Black Dagger series and anything by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. I also love Judith McNaught and Jude Devereaux and Julie Garwood's old historicals. They make me sad, angry, and happy all at the same time.

RG: It's an exciting time time for authors with the emergence and growing popularity of epublishing and the increase of smaller publishers--what are your feelings?

CY: I'm all e-pubbed, even though I have two print anthologies. I think e-publishing has opened many doors for authors who have given up hope to be one day NY published, but it's also a great way to get out there and share your stories quicker with readers. Anything digital is the way to go! Plus I can't live without my e-readers so I can never get enough e-books.

Thank you so much for having me!

Clarissa

About the author: An avid reader and writer, Clarissa spends most of time with her head stuck up in the clouds and lurking behind her romance novels when she's not writing up a storm. Currently residing in Hawaii, Clarissa enjoys traveling all over the United States, so you'll never know where you'll find her. She also loves video games, scrapbooking, trying new foods, and of course, shopping. What woman wouldn't? Well, not exactly clothes shopping, but she does love tech toys. If there's a new gadget, then she'd most likely have it (even though she is not tech-savvy and is known for breaking things.)
