Our review: I began this book with little knowledge about it besides having read the opening paragraph and being an admirer of the cover art. I'm glad I did this. When Copper Suns Fall is a complex YA urban fantasy set in a dystopian world which includes some paranormal-type characters and a beguiling fantastical storyline with mysteries to solve and rich twists and turns. I was surprised at how quickly Chela's tale drew me in. I was tempted to plow right through this one but didn't and I would advise not to. There is a lot to draw in and comprehend as Chela narrates her tale.
KaSonndra Leigh has quite the imagination and it shows throughout. Traveling with Chela as she tries to unravel what exactly happened to her twin brother, Micah, now comatose, is an intense journey in her futuristic world where kids are classified into specific classes and a military force is always present. The robo-crows were cool and the amusement park setting added to the intensity.
The author's style was fluid and there were lovely passages and lines throughout that I simply loved. The pacing flowed so well I felt like I was on a boat ride, grabbing onto the railings at times when the waves got too rocky until I was able to settle back and begin the ride all over again. Chela's voice was age appropriate and drew me in. There was plenty of action (fencing!) as she deals with family secrets and very mysterious boys who pop up and then disappear. One of the strongest attributes this story has is the murkiness/blurring of lines of who exactly is good or bad and I liked how the author did this. Did I say there were angels? Yes, there is and that's all I will say since I don't want to divulge too much of this novel.

On the critical side there were some occasions I thought called for more description and a romance which developed quickly. Occasional typos and some places could be tighter but neither certainly didn't deter from my reading enjoyment. Also, the beginning did pack a lot of info of this new world which could be confusing but slowing my reading did help me understand this new version of our world.
A testament to an author's skill is how fully invested a reader becomes with your characters. I was fully invested with Chela, Faris and Seth. As a debut novelist I was certainly impressed with When Copper Suns Fall and will be watching out for KaSonndra Leigh's next installment in Chela's thrilling story. She has created an intense YA fantasy with unique characters and situations in an unsettling futuristic world, a world I want to know more about.
