Book Tour: Nate Rocks The World + Giveaway

Nate Rocks: Part Super-Hero, Part All-Star Athlete, Part Rock-Star… Part Fourth-Grader?

Ten-year-old Nathan Rockledge cannot catch a break. After all, life as a fourth-grader can be hazardous - what with science projects to deal with and recess football games to avoid. Everyone, including his best friend Tommy, seems to have bad luck when hanging around Nathan. Throw in an older sister who is a royal pain, a dad who is stuck in the past, and a mom who keeps trying to poison him with her awful cooking, and poor Nathan’s life as a fourth-grader appears to be completely doomed.

Armed only with his sketchpad, his imagination, and his wits, Nathan Rockledge navigates the perils of the fourth grade in style, to emerge heroic, as Nate Rocks, proving that even a ten-year-old can accomplish great things.

Follow the adventures of ten-year-old Nathan Rockledge as his cartoons and adventures come to life.

Guest Post by Karen Pokras Toz

When I sat down to write my first novel just a couple of years ago, I never intended to write a children’s book. However, I quickly discovered that I enjoyed writing in the voice of a child much more than writing in the voice of an adult. Perhaps I have been hanging around my kids and all of their friends too much. Perhaps I just have the mentality of a ten-year-old. Whatever the reason, I put that first novel to the side and began writing Nate Rocks the World.

The inspiration for Nate came directly from my three kids. I wanted a book that was fun to read. Getting my own kids to read anything that wasn’t part of required school reading was next to impossible. So I decided I wanted something that kids would be interested in – something funny and action packed, that they could relate to. My own children are very creative. My oldest son is a great artist, my daughter is an amazing and talented dancer, and my little guy loves to role play – usually saving the world from bad guys as one superhero or another. I rolled them all together to create one fabulous and imaginative Nathan Rockledge (aka Nate Rocks.)

Encouraging our children to read is one of the best things we can do for them, and my hope is that Nate Rocks will show kids just how awesome reading can be. My oldest said it best recently: “Reading is like a movie in your head, only better...”

One of these days I will finish working on that original “adult” manuscript that began my love for writing, but for now I am having too much fun writing more adventures for the second Nate Rocks book, due out in 2012.
