Guest Post: Author Kate Hinderer and Aurora Undefined

Aurora is entering her senior year and everything around her seems to be falling apart. Her best friend has joined the cool crowd and she struggles to grapple with the loss. But when tragedy strikes, Aurora realizes what loss is really all about and how moving on becomes a fight of the will, mind and heart.
Kate had been watching the casting news excitement for a certain popular dystopian series and thought it would be interesting to write her guest post about having her own novel, Aurora Undefined, made into a movie. Which actors could she envision in the roles of her characters?

It took me one day to read The Hunger Games. I picked it up on a whim and couldn’t put it down. So it’s no surprise I’ve been closely following the casting of the movies… Wes Bentley, Willow Shields, Liam Hemsworth. Every time a book I love becomes a movie, there is a small degree of disappointment when I realize I didn’t envision the character to look the way the movie’s directors imagined him/her. Prime example: Edward Cullen played by Robert Pattinson – so not how I saw Bella’s love!
All the movie talk of the Hunger Games coincided with the release of my first eBook Aurora Undefined, so when someone commented it would make a nice Nicholas Sparks-type of movie I began envisioning the cast I’d want playing my characters. If the decision were up to me, here’s who I would have play the main roles…
Aurora – Saoirse Ronan. I like her for a couple reasons. One – she is not a huge major Hollywood actress yet, which means people will not have pre-conceived notions about her. Two – she looks amazingly normal, like the girl-next-door that Aurora is supposed to be. Three – she gives off the air of being smart, strong and yet vulnerable, which is a tricky combination.
Hudson – Sterling Knight. Ok, in 17 Again he plays a dorky kid who isn’t able to stand-up for himself, but he proves that he’s got a sense of humor. In Starstruck he shows he can play the non-nerd just as well. Plus he’s good looking in a non-assuming way, which is exactly who Hudson is. (And I also just like his name – I’m big about names.)
Julie – Emma Watson. She is one of my favorite young actresses. Her short hair, her sweet demeanor, her poise, her love for all things green… it all works with Julie.
Allie – Ashley Tisdale. Maybe it’s because she is usually type-cast as the spoiled popular girl, but she fits the role of the back-stabbing ex-best friend.
Mike – Cameron Bright. He looks exactly as I envisioned Mike, a little tough, utterly hot, rich and reckless.
Tyler – Jesse McCartney. Before you laugh at this one, check out his independent movie Keith. He is an amazing actor. I was blown away by his performance in it. And while Tyler’s roll is small, when he is in a scene he’s got to make his presence known.
Mr. Lewis – Harrison Ford. He’s one of my favorite actors. And although they would have to make him look a little younger, I could see him pulling off the loving but often distracted father.

Still the stories never stopped flowing.

ReplyDeleteHow fun! After having read the book, it was fun for me to see how you envision your characters. For some reason, I pictured them looking a lot older, but I like how the actors look picked look age appropriate and not scarily old in a Dawson's Creek type of way.
