Rick had considered bringing her home with him, but decided against it—it would complicate matters. Instead of leaving, he walked around the yard. Shadows from tree branches danced on the outside walls of the house. A gentle breeze filled the air, not cold or abnormal. He bumped into the corner fence post of the chicken coop, the rattling sound unnerving him. “Dammit, I’m going to wake the dead.” He completed a full circle of the premises and sat in his car. Bill’s headlights flashed in his mirrors. Since staying would raise suspicion, he put the car in gear and left.
Concerned for Gabrielle’s well-being, for the first time in years he prayed. He’d lost faith, but to solve the St. Clair myth, he’d need a miracle. As per some citizens, a ghost inhabited the village and anyone who encountered this ghost died. To settle the ill feeling in his gut, Rick paced and processed the information.
Whoever started this story has lived to tell its tale. Since Gabrielle has seen the ghost more than once and is still alive, I hope her luck continues.
The familiar creaking sounds of his old house seemed louder than usual. “If you hurt her, I’ll hunt you down and—” The phone rang, interrupting his threat to ghosts or demons. He rushed to answer. “Hello.”
At the other end, no reply.
“Hello. Hello. Gabby?”

G.P. is Canadian. A wife and mother of three who works in school bus transportation. In her last year of high school, she enjoyed writing a weekly column published in the French newspaper in her home town. Writing took a back seat for years and now that her children are grown, it’s become her favorite hobby.
