I was the casting associate for a pilot being
produced by a Very Famous Television Mogul. During one of our producer callback
sessions (read: big time audition), the Very Famous Television Producer’s
actress daughter came to visit, along with her fluffy white wisp of a dog. She
wanted to sit in on the auditions, but worried that her presence might make an
already stressful audition even more nerve-wracking, so she elected to hide
under her father’s desk across the massive room, her tiny pup cuddled in her
lap. The auditioning actor’s back was to them, so all good, right?
Uh, no.
Mid-audition, the tiny ball of fur darted
across the room, greeting everyone with shrill yaps. The poor actor tried to
continue his audition, but the dog was stealing the scene. Stern-faced producers
tried to hold in laughter. Just when the audition couldn’t get any worse, the
daughter unfolded herself from her hiding place under the desk, gathered her
dog, and walked out, as casually as if she were exiting a day spa. And yeah, we
invited the actor to take some time and come back to audition later. Only in
Hollywood! :)
