Master…

Being that person, that man is how I define myself, how I allow the rest of the world to define me as well. And now, with a terrible loss shredding me inside out and someone trying to destroy my family to punish me, control is more important than ever. It is everything. It is what I need. It is all I need. Or maybe I just need…her.

Deep down beside all the layers of guilt, the hubris, feelings about the past and many other things, Mark Compton remains an enigma. Readers like myself who have been with him since the birth of the Inside Out series know the type of man he is: businessman, confident, loving son, wealthy, controlling, debonair. The adjectives are plentiful. Then there is his past with Rebecca. Other words describe him too. Cold. Manipulator. Love. Mark has had to deal with a lot like loss and handling his beloved mother's cancer while figuring out who murdered his employee and lover. Then Crystal entered the equation and let's just say things became even more complicated. That's a good word for him.

Mark. And through it all he remains two things. Masked. And The Master.

In I Belong to You, Mark continues to grapple with his desire and feelings for Crystal as does she since both narrate this novel. Life continues. Mark travels to close a business, see his mother, putdistance between Crystal and himself. In some ways she is similar to Mark. Secretive. Closed off. Hiding. Fighting. Crystal is trying to handle her own problems in her own way like with her father and his wanting her to work for him. Then there's Mr. Compton. When she finally decides to give Mark a part of her closed-off self, will he take it?

I'm a fan of author Lisa Renee Jones. I've enjoyed her series in all of its gloriously smexy, messy and contrived ways. Mark has always intrigued me--at first from the pages of Rebecca's journals to seeing the real man in action, to meeting Crystal. I have liked some installments more than others. In this fifth part I found some parts repetitive, some drawn out, and many questions still remain unanswered. Where is Rebecca's room mate? The parts I always love about her novels--from the emotional writing that strips away the clutter, the complex characters and their emotional and occasionally scarring/haunting trysts--are still abundant and they keep me reading. Oh, how they keep me invested. As much as Mark has page time, I still don't feel like I know the real man. Will we ever ladies?

Craving. Need. Independence. Want. Desire. I Belong to You continues Mark and Crystal's journey on their never ending roller coaster ride (or will it be a train wreck?) of a relationship while fleshing out other aspects of their lives. Is it enough? Since I still don't know everything, I will happily continue to support the series but a part of me is growing frustrated and would like things come to fruition. Knowing and trusting this author, they will.
