I’m a journalist—Adam Kincaid, BBC reporter, to be exact, so I’m not going to bury the lead. I’m about to see the woman I never got over.

I know that because I’ve been back in America for years now, and I still don’t date American girls. My dad would say I’ve come to my senses, sticking to my own British patrician kind, but that’s crap. Mum, the psychologist, would more wisely say it’s my unresolved issues around Nicki. My teenage years are long behind me, yet my guilt over her remains. So I’ve avoided all things Nicki, though the irony is she’s the one avoiding me.

Maybe if we see each other, we can both move on. Could she ever forgive me? Can you forgive yourself when you hurt someone you love?

But please, don’t answer yet. I’ve jumped ahead of the story, and as a reporter, I should give you more background to get to the root of it all.

So let me tell you my story. Then you can be the judge.

NOTE: While this is the third in the series, it can be read as a stand-alone book.

Nicki and Adam. Adam and Nicki. As teens I fell in love with them as they fell for each other in Beside Your Heart. As adults, I enjoyed Nicki's side of their continuing saga in Disclosure of the Heart, but I will readily admit that Adam's story--Forever Your Heart--is the version in which I truly connected with this beloved couple. Thank you, Mary Whitney, for sharing their stories with us.

Adam Kincaid. I know he exists only on paper and on ereader screens, but I can easily hear his English accent as my eyes devoured the words of his tale. The charismatic BBC reporter stationed in Washington, DC, the same town as his teenaged love, Nicki. I thought I already knew their story from reading Nicki's version. How wrong I was. Again, Ms. Whitney pops me in the gut with her emotional exposition, getting to the true heart of a couple destined to be together despite a sixteen year break. Numerous others and a close call engagement, no one could take the place when a heart is already taken. Adam's story grabbed and firmly hooked me and kept me riveted. When he verbally beat himself up over all of his mistakes and missed chances with Nicki, I understood. How he never forgot any thing about her touched me. Usually females retain those little nuggets about relationships but Adam proved me wrong. The museum scene may have been short but it was rife with chemistry (as most of their scenes together are). The author keeps her readers invested and out heart rates accelerating with each scene, with each phone call, with each press conference, with each interaction.

I thoroughly enjoyed seeing things from Adam's perspective. He has become such a caring, tender man, and has never forgotten his true love. Neither has Nicki. I was never a cheerleader in high school but I became one when I turned to book blogging. How could I not root for these two? A continent may have separated them, yet Adam found a way to reconnect with the woman he loves. He's dealing with his own family problems, especially his ill father. Despite the sadness he experiences, there is also joy. I really connected with Adam in this book, something I unfortunately didn't feel for Nicki in her book. The author has this way of gripping the reader, making me forget about everything else while her characters take over my life. With its steady pace, Forever Your Heart made me forget about time. These people became so real, even the secondary characters, and I wish this series would be made into movies. What a lovely way to end a wonderful series. I was saddened to have say goodbye to Adam and Nicki. Thank you, Mary Whitney!

“It’s an emotional story that will take the reader back to those feelings that made the late teen years such a powerful time.”

Late one night Nicki Johnson plays with emotional fire and Googles her high school love, only to find his name splashed across the British gossip columns. Back in his native England, Adam Kincaid is successful and dating a woman from an aristocratic family like his own. With a career in politics, Nicki’s no slouch, but she knows Adam is living a world away from her life.

Yet there was a time he was no farther than the next locker. Nicki will never forget their year together in high school—the year of her sister’s death, the year her mother checked out. Adam helped Nicki through suffocating grief, and she led him through a coming of age. Was it just high school, or was it something more?

Book Two

DISCLOSURE OF THE HEART

Amazon | Barnes and Noble

Sixteen years is a long time to wait for your true love to reappear, and, anyway, Nicki Johnson couldn’t wait for the impossible to happen. Hard life lessons have taught her that fairy tales are children’s stories, and fate is cruel. Burying her hopes, she’s spent the last sixteen years focused and driven toward her career, and it’s landed her with a job at the White House with a gem of a boyfriend. But when her high school love, Adam Kincaid, walks into the White House as a BBC reporter, Nicki’s world is thrown into turmoil as she relives their past. Adam has come back for her, but has he arrived too late?

About the Author

Even before she graduated from law school, Mary knew she wasn’t cut out to be a real lawyer. Drawn to politics, she’s spent her career as an organizer, lobbyist, and nonprofit executive. Nothing piques her interest more than a good political scandal or romance, and when she stumbled upon writing, she put the two together. A born Midwesterner, naturalized Texan, and transient resident of Washington, D.C., Mary now lives in Northern California with her two daughters and real lawyer husband.
