Hell is looking for a way to break loose...

Jax lost the genetic lottery. Descended from Cain, the world's first murderer, he's plagued by a curse that demands violence in exchange for his happiness. He left everything behind, including the girl he loved, but thriving on the pain of others is lonely… And it's killing him.

After a series of heartbreaking losses, Samantha put rubber to pavement and headed for college as fast as her clunker could carry her. But she can't outrun her problems. When an attack at school drives her back home, she's thrown into the path of a past—and a guy—she's been trying to forget.

Sam strains Jax's control over his darkness, but running isn't an option this time. Someone—or, something—followed her home from school: a ruthless monster with a twisted plan centuries in the making. Forced together to survive, and fighting an attraction that could destroy them both, Jax and Sam must stop a killer bent on revenge.

Jus Accardo spent her childhood reading and learning to cook. Determined to follow in her grandfather's footsteps as a chef, she applied and was accepted to the Culinary Institute of America. At the last minute, she realized her path lay with fiction, not food, and passed on the spot to pursue writing.

Jus is the bestselling author the popular Denazen series from Entangled publishing and is currently working on the first book in a paranormal new adult series due out summer 2013. A native New Yorker, she lives in the middle of nowhere with her husband, three dogs, and sometimes guard bear, Oswald.

Author Jus Accardo has done it again. She has written a novel I didn't want to couldn't put down. Ruined has just the right blend of dark, edgy characters, kick ass action, a unique story line and a romance I found totally believable. Jax and his identical twin brother, Chase, are descendants of Cain and Abel. This gave the story a unique foundation which was then amped up even more by the disclosure that Jax is 'cursed'-carries a demon inside him and this demon hates/wants Chase dead. Yes, Jax is a 'bad boy' but he has such a great reason why. He doesn't want to hurt his brother so he left, but returns to his hometown to see his sick uncle only to have old feelings and memories resurface, including spotting Chase with his ex-girlfriend, Sam.

Having Jax and Sam narrate gave the story dimension and filled in any questions which sprang to mind. Both characters have similar attributes from being 'bad' in their own ways to their snark/humorous retorts/can take of themselves independent ways. They were certainly entertaining. Something is out to get Sam, following her all the way back from her school, and Jax wants to keep her safe. Forced to work together, old feelings resurface and the author excelled with their romance. In an action-packed tale, romance doesn't take a back seat. For two 'bad asses', Jax and Sam showed they had stellar qualities too and I couldn't help loving them both. And talk about chemistry! Jax may think he's evil with the whole 'carrying a demon around' thing, but the young man on these pages was more than that. He has a good heart and a strong need to protect the innocent and those he loves.

I need to mention more about the uniqueness of this story and how it gave the story an added depth. Jax and his 'inner demon' Azirak shared a strange, kind of cool, bond which was shown through their relationship. For an evil being, he grew on me which is something that hardly ever happens. Another aspect I loved was how Sam realized if she was to have a relationship with Jax, she would have to accept Azirak too. Having the demon develop feelings for her knocked the conflict out the park for me. I was not expecting this wild, unique, romantic, and action-filled novel at all.

Ruined is a spectacular paranormal romance. Jus Accardo continues to impress, surprise, and excite readers with every new book. By adding her own diverse canvas of unique characters and beings, she stands out in a genre filled with overused character types and tropes. This is otherworldly. This is what reading and escapism is all about. Though classified as New Adult, Ruined is also for older YA readers and anyone who enjoys terrific tales. I so recommend it.

Cover comment:
The cover for Ruined is one of those covers which need to be looked at a couple of times to grasp the complexity of it. Once you've read the story I believe you'll love the cover like I do from the darkness of it to the title letters on the side of Jax's face. Cool!
