I have heard a lot of buzz about Lisa Renee Jones' spicy Inside Out series. After being introduced to Mark and the author's style of storytelling in this novella, The Master Undone, I must confess I want more. Why?

"I'm supposed to be able to control my thoughts. I'm a Master. A title that defines who I am and how I stay grounded. My thumb is always on the pulse of everything that happens around me--or so I thought. For the first time since college, I'm not sure ..."

That's why. I don't know much about Mark but from this admission I understand him. After hopping a flight to NYC to see his mother before she undergoes surgery, he's a mess. At the surface he looks fine, deep deeper and he's trying hard to remain composed. When he encounters the blond, pretty and petite Crystal at the airport, her directness begins to unnerve him. Mark begins to lose control. What? A Master losing control? 

"I don't reach for her hand. But my need to avoid touching her isn't control, it's weakness--and I hate weakness. I close my hand over hers."

The Master Undone may be short but it sure packs a lot of emotion, the tension practically oozes off the page, and the pacing keeps the reader in the moment. Mark is dealing with the fallout from book two so his emotions are raw. Coupled with his mom's cancer diagnosis and sudden surgery, staying in control is not doable. It's obvious this man exudes calm and control, demands it in his life. Except for now.

"I'm drawn to this woman, who's the complete opposite of my type, for reasons I don't understand. Maybe it's simply that she's different from everything familiar, and everything familiar feels wrong right now."

The chemistry between Mark and Crystal, his mother's employee, is so realistic and hot. From a brief encounter the reader knows something undeniable is already there. The author shows us with words, reactions, eyelashes flickering, a simple touch. The dialogue sizzles with double meanings, unnerving Mark even more when Crystal remarks on it. She's a refreshing woman in this type of scenario, far from a submissive, and I liked her boldness and straight up attitude. Their hotel scene was sexy and short. I'm not sure if these two characters will be in the next book in this series, but after reading this I sure hope they are. The Master Undone is an appetizer to what I hope is the main course in the next book in Lisa Renee Jones' scintillating sexy Inside Out series. Consider me a fan.
