The G.A.P. Club blog tour: excerpt, guest post and giveaway

Title: The Guys Are Props Club
Author: Ingrid Seymour
Date of Publication: July 15, 2013
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance

During her senior year in high school, Maddie Burch promised herself not to ever fall for a cute guy – or any guy – again. Cute guys are players and not to be trusted, a fact she learned the hard way when her first boyfriend ran her heart through a paper shredder. Two years later, her promise is still intact, and she’s determined to make it through college without falling victim to another creep. She has her job, school and The Guys Are Props Club to keep her mind and hormones in check.

The club was founded by Jessica, Maddie’s best friend. It is a sisterhood of girls who have fallen prey to heartless jerks and who have vowed to turn the tables. Once a semester, Jessica requires members to “do onto others as they’ve done unto you.” Setting the example, Jessica’s next play is Sebastian Capello, a theater major with heartthrob looks and a flair for Latin dance, whose heart she plans to break the way hers was once broken.

What the friends don’t know is that Sebastian is different. Despite his perfect looks and popularity, he’s not a jerk. He doesn’t play games to get his way. Instead, he keeps it real and goes after what he wants with honest intentions. And what he wants is not a bombshell like Jessica, but a down-to-earth girl like Maddie – even if it causes a riff in the girl’s friendship. Even if it means getting Maddie to break her personal vow.

*** Due to language and sexual situations this book is recommended for ages 17 and older.

Excerpt:
Sebastian turned to look back at me. We stared into each other’s eyes until he asked, “Why are you afraid of letting me in? Did someone hurt you before?”

Breaking eye contact, I sat up and hugged my legs to my chest.

Rule No.8: Never share your secrets with a player. He will only use them to his advantage.

The idea for The G.A.P. Club literally sprang into my head one afternoon. Some ideas do that to people. They take a life of their own and become momentous for the author, the song writer, the movie producer, the blogger, the reader, etc. Everyone has had these moments of clarity about one thing or another, where they can see the path to something they want to accomplish and, for once, that path is clear as day. That is how it was for me with this book. The concept came to me, and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. My mind was so clear that I was able to write the story in 3 weeks!!! That is unprecedented for me.

It was a fun story to write and mainly I hope readers will enjoy reading, too. For me, the most crucial element in New Adult is the theme of self-discovery. Maddie and Sebastian will face their own challenges, but eventually they will have a revelation that will shape them into better adults. I hope The G.A.P Club’s readers will identify with their struggles and will appreciate the way they grow and learn from their mistakes. The story is about doing the right thing and being honest with yourself and everyone else, even in the face of difficulty situations. As an author, this is the message I hope I’m able to get accomplished on the page.

  2. This story sounds good. I had a friend/roommate a few years back that went through a lot of this kind of stuff from guys (which I constantly had to hear about even though I told her to stay away from certain ones...) so I can sort of relate to some of this. Thanks for the giveaway! :)
