Resonance (Holloway Pack #2.5) by J.A. Belfield
Urban fantasy*Ebook, 106 pages
Published April 2nd 2013 by J.Taylor Publishing

Guilt is a heavy burden for the one carrying it.

Jem Stonehouse is no exception to this rule.

What if she’d acted sooner? What if she’d fully recognised the threat? What if she hadn’t allowed the male pack members to head into the witches’ ambush?

For one, youngest pack member Josh Larsen wouldn’t be trapped in the sleep of the dead.

Now, Jem is convinced it’s her job to bring him back to life no matter what it takes— learning more about her heritage, risking pack exposure, or travelling to places she couldn’t have imagined possible.

Even if the journey endangers her soul.

About the author:
J. A. Belfield

One day, a character and scene popped into J. A. Belfield’s head, and she started controlling the little people inside her imagination, as though she were the puppet master and they her toys. Questions arose: What would happen if …? How would they react if …? Who would they meet if …? Before she knew it, a singular scene had become an entire movie. The characters she controlled began to hold conversations. Their actions reflected the personalities she bestowed upon them. Within no time, they had a life, a lover, a foe, family … they had Become.

One day, she wrote down her thoughts. She’s yet to stop.

J. A. Belfield lives in Solihull, England, with her husband, two children, three cats and a dog. She writes paranormal romance, with a second love for urban fantasy.

First off, I have to make a confession: I was so intrigued by the cover for Resonance I didn't realize this was a series. Yes, I know, silly mistake, but the great thing is after reading Resonance, I didn't make a mistake. I found a new author I really liked and a fantastical world I need to know about.

The Holloway Pack series consists of the full-length novels (in order): Darkness & Light, Blue Moon and Caged and the novellas Instinct, Eternal and Resonance. J.A. Belfield gives just the right amount of information and backstory I was able to follow along. I also liked the paranormal aspects of pack life with the gritty action of urban fantasy. Wolves and witches warring? Very cool. Jem is a solid, realistic character. She's skillful, conniving, inquisitive and determined. And yet she is vulnerable at times and makes mistakes which she owns up to. That's my favorite type of character. I need to catch up on the series because I really want to read about everything leading up to Josh being put into a sleep spell (and I want to see Jem in action seeking retribution with the witches responsible for Josh's condition). When Jem convinces the pack leader to let her visit her sister, I was hooked by her dedication in getting him to give his consent while her inner voice is frazzled by worry.

I was intrigued by the entire part of the grimoire search and how Jem questioned the information in one book. She's not afraid to speak her mind and that's an admirable trait. Her determination to find out more about her binding to Sean lets her find out other things too. I was taken by this story and her journey to the other realm to find Josh. For a fast paced story I enjoyed every minute of learning about Jem, Josh, Sean and Ethan and the pack life. Wolves, witches, spells and secrets makes Resonance a fascinating read and The Holloway Pack a series I need to read asap.

Cover comment:
I love the cover. His pose, the grass, the somber colors. This cover screams "READ ME!"
