Up until now, Nicole's life has been mapped out for her. She'd go to college, marry Jake and become the upstanding minister's wife. When she leaves that life to begin again in a small town in Texas, she finally has the freedom to live as she chooses. There, she meets Kent, a guy whose charm and passion make it hard to stick to her morals.

Dodging his father’s fists and protecting his twin sister made Kent into the man he is today. He learned by watching his mother stay by his father’s side that it’s better to keep relationships simple. Then he meets Nicole. Her sweet smile and genuine response to him land like punches to his resolve. After a lifetime of learning to protect his heart, can he finally let down his guard?

I Choose You was my introduction to author Bethany Lopez' Friends and Lovers series. I have to say it was refreshing to read a love story with a touch of romance. Nicole is a sweet, strong minded young woman who took hold of her future two years earlier when she broke up with her boyfriend, Jake, and told her parents their vision for her future was not what she wanted. Her parents were unhappy with her decision and she left them, Jake, and her hometown behind. Now that's called creating a clean break. New state, new apartment, new job, Nicole has started over and is enjoying her life and independence. She gets a new roommate, Roni, who has a hot twin brother, Kent. Nicole thinks he's gorgeous and he finally asks he out. As a Christian girl with a firm belief of waiting until marriage, will Kent feel the same if they hit it off and develop a relationship?

Nicole and Kent are a sweet couple. I have to admire Nicole and her determination to remain a virgin until marriage and yet she lets Kent know there are 'other things' they can do in lieu of having sex which did confuse me in context with her beliefs. He was a nice guy and learning of her beliefs then made him wonder how he was supposed to touch her. This was a fast-paced read and the secondary characters added to my reading enjoyment. I especially liked Roni and the way she seemed to hate Rich so knowing the third story in this series is their story is an added treat. Kent is a decent, hard working guy and doesn't think he's good enough for Nicole, especially when he meets her parents and sees where she grew up. Their relationship did seem rushed to me and I wished for some more depth in their characters. Still, I liked the author's writing style and read straight through the book in one sitting.

I Choose You is a sweet, almost old-fashioned love story featuring a modern day couple readers will like to watch fall for each other.

Cover comment:
This pose has become a popular one with both YA and NA covers in the past few months. I really liked it when I saw it for this book but now I am tired of seeing this type of pose.
