Yes, because I think it's accurate -- it's not exactly YA but also not necessarily adult. It deals with a segment of the population that generally hasn't been written about. I love NA

I do. I'm older but still read YA and am glad there's an older distinction.

ReplyDeleteI am honestly not sure yet. I haven't read anything labeled "New Adult" yet. I think it is a smart thing, though. Especially for those of us who are not quite so "young" adult anymore. :)
ReplyDeleteI think it's probably important for people who are checking on books for their kids. at least if it's labelled new adult rather than young adult then parents know that's its probably inappropriate for their 12 year old.
ReplyDeleteI can see where it would be helpful for younger readers when they are picking out books to read. I'm past the age of Young Adult and New Adult, so the tags don't really mean much to me.

It doesn't bother me much...I think it's interesting...I'm pass both in their classifications both heck I still read them. Still it's kinda nice to know what lines are going to drawn so to speak.
ReplyDeleteI like the new adult category. Most books I read in this category. Every new adult book I've read, the characters are about my age and are experiencing things people who are in their late teens or early 20s are experiencing. I still read young adult books but lately it seems like I'm reading about some one who is 15, which isn't always bad... but other times it feels kiddie.

I do like it. It's kind of a bridge between YA and adult and that's an untapped area.
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure I know what "New Adult" really is. For that matter, though, I don't think the people establishing it do either. I say we just read what suits us and stop sticking a label on it.

I like it since YA isn't just happily ever after clean stories. There's stories about real issues and problems young adults and new adults face. It's a new label but the books that fit it have been around, so often people were upset young adult contained such...inappropriate material (even if the kids in question were 18).
ReplyDeleteI like it, I know what New Adult is and hopefully this new label will make middle adults and older take a second look at the great books they've been missing because of the supposedly squeaky clean young adult label.
It actually makes a lot of sense.

ReplyDeleteI like it because some YA reads really do border more on the adult genre. New Adult gives readers more mature story-lines without being too heavy, and for someone in college it is perfect :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't really even know what it was until just now. It doesn't really matter to me either way but it's sort of nice because it let's you know even more clearly what a book is going to contain within the pages. Can't go wrong with that. Of course, I'll read anything with words regardless, but it's still nice to know what you are getting yourself into in advance :)

ReplyDeleteI love the NA introduced classification. It establishes there IS a gap between maturity at 15 and maturity at 30. Thank God there are books specifically labelled so nowadays!
ReplyDeleteEh, I don't really think it's necessary, but that's just me. I have read several NA books that have been great, so it's just the label that bothers me, the books themselves are fine. To me they are just adult books.

ReplyDeleteI do like NA, however I don't want it to be an excuse to add more sex. I don't like the name for it either, but I like how they're putting a different age group, because we need them too!
