The anti-marriage slogan plastered on his office window, and his down-on-love clients, quickly prove detrimental to Monica’s business. When his arrival appears to trigger a string of bad luck, Monica fears one of her spells sent negative energy into the universe and it has returned to her threefold. Although Reed is beyond sexy, and she admires his self-confidence, she’ll do whatever it takes to get the universe back on her side, and Reed out of her life. No way is she losing another business. 

Reed finds himself attracted to Monica’s beauty and her optimism. His job and his parents’ divorce have made him a pessimist, especially when it comes to love. However, he soon finds that Monica’s pro-love attitude is rubbing off on him, causing him to lose his edge. If Reed doesn’t distance himself from Monica, he’ll likely destroy his reputation as a pit bull divorce lawyer. 

Can Monica and Reed look past what they might be losing to realize the love they have found?

Crazy Little Thing Called Love 

or Just Plain Crazy? 

Just how far would you go to find true love? Would you take skydiving lessons from a hot instructor, even though you’re deathly afraid of heights? Go horseback riding on your dream guy’s ranch, when you’re allergic to horses? How far is too far? 

In my new contemporary romance, Under Her Spell, the heroine Monica has suffered one failed relationship after another. She turns to spell casting to help her find Mr. Right. The ingredients for her soul mate spell include a red candle, lavender incense, jasmine oil, cinnamon, a love letter to her soul mate, and the core ingredient--belief. After I wrote the scene I wondered if readers would think that Monica comes across as desperate. Well, she is desperate. Then I wondered if they’d think she was a tad crazy even though spell casting isn’t just a bunch of hocus pocus. It’s about focusing your energy on making something happen. Curious just how far people go in the pursuit of love, I did a bit of research. The following are three of the more extreme things people have done. 

James Doyan felt bad that his 63-year-old mom was having a difficult time finding the right man, so he posted her picture on eBay with a starting price of one British pound. It was covered by the media and eBay removed the post because it violated their “human remains and body parts policy.” Um, how would your mom react if you did this? Especially if you were auctioning her off at only a pound! 

Patrick Moberg of New York City felt he “shared a moment” with a girl on a subway train. He couldn’t stop thinking about her, so he created a website in search of her. The page included a sketch of the two of them, details of their encounter, and his contact info. Her friend came across the website and hooked up the two of them. They started dating, which he declined to comment on. However, the couple appeared on Good Morning America and the website is still up. You can check it out at www.nygirlofmydreams.com. Yeah, this was a bit extreme, but I have to admit, I’m inspired to write the screenplay for this romance if someone hasn’t already. 

When Kelly Summers learned that her boyfriend had another long-term girlfriend, she posted 62 video diaries on YouTube, in which she went a bit off the deep end—sobbing uncontrollably and spilling her guts over their breakup. She quickly gained a following of over 11,000 viewers including her ex. When he saw how much she loved him, he decided he loved her and wanted her back. Hmm… No comment.

She and her friends were huge Charlie’s Angels fans and she would sit in her bedroom at night writing scripts for them to act out at recess the following day. She was Kelly Garrett.
