Review:
I began reading this book not knowing much about it and I'm glad I hadn't read any reviews or comments. My Favorite Mistake is a New Adult title featuring an interesting array of friends, Taylor, her two friends, new roommate Hunter, his cousin, Mase and a few others. The story revolves around Taylor (or as Hunter calls her "Missy') and Hunter who shares her bedroom when the college housing department sets him up with this group of girls in their coed dorm. From the get-go Taylor has complete disdain for the guy--for his smoking looks, his lines, his smugness. She even goes so far as to hit and kick him. Despite her obvious feelings, there's a part of her that finds him attractive. Can you guess where this is going?
As much as I enjoyed reading My Favorite Mistake, I had some issues with it too. I didn't connect with Taylor, even knowing she had "an issue" from her past to contend with, I found her downright abusive to Hunter throughout and he came across as a good guy with the bod of a baddie. She has some serious anger management issues, bad enough when her roommates tell Hunter in the beginning scene that she gets this way. As for Hunter, he has his own baggage to handle but he takes his time and works on Taylor, getting her to loosen up. I'm not sure any other guy would have been bothered and she could drive him over the edge.
What I really liked about My Favorite Mistake were the one-liners the characters had, especially Hunter and Taylor. When the drama went on a little too long, these memorable lines would pop up and I'd laugh. After all of the building up of Taylor's drama, the ending didn't have the impact I expected and was a little too perfect for my tastes. I am glad to see more books being offered in the New Adult genre. My favorite title so far is still Tammara Webber's Easy.

ReplyDeleteI made some really bad choices and mistakes my freshman year of high school that seriously messed up the rest of my time in high school. If I could go back in time, I would've made better choices and dedicate myself to making high school a lot better for me than what it was.
