Halloween Sucks - Says Lily Drake blog hop

Today is the first day of October, the month we use scary decorations and dress up in colorful costumes in search of candy and treats on Halloween night. It is also the first day of the "Halloween Sucks, Says Lily Drake" Blog Hop presented by Inkspell Publishing. There are over 50 blogs participating in this hop. Lily Drake wants to know about people's favorite fictional vampires. When I think of vampires, I have many favorites in all types of media. Some of my favorites are:

Movies:

  • Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) Two words: Gary Oldman. Old fashioned, a class act, sexy, that voice and those eyes.
  • The vampires of Underworld 2003), in particular Shane Brolly. What the movie lacked in character development it made up for with cool visuals and lots of action.
  • Dracula 2000 (2000) Not crazy about the movie but it starred Gerard Butler. Enough said.
  • Fright Night (1985) Roddy MacDowall stole his scenes and Chris Sarandon was delightfully chilly.
TV/Cable
  • Supernatural: It's not the vampires, per say, it's watching the Winchester brothers taking care of business that's the true treat.
  • The men of True Blood. Amen.
  • Vampire Diaries: A Damon fan all the way.
  • Moonlight: I still say network tv did not do this show justice. Alex O'Loughlin was a sympathetic vampire and had chemistry with co-star Sophia Myles.
  • Blood Ties: Hello, Henry Fitzroy! He oozed charm and sex appeal and was so easy to like.
  • Salem's Lot (1979) A decent depiction of a Stephen King novel. It was great seeing 'Hutch' staking bloodsuckers.
  • The Night Stalker (1972). Who can forget Darrin McGavin as Carl Kolchak? I can't.
Books:
  • Dracula. Bram Stoker.
  • Anne Rice's The Vampire Lestat/The Vampire Chronicles. He will always be the top vamp.
  • Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series. Rose and Dmitri.
  • Vampire Knight (2005-) Matsuri Hino's tender drawings captured something special for this vampire fan. Yuki, Zero, Kaname--what a tale and what a web Hino continues to weave. Not always consistent, still utterly readable, this series has become close to an addiction.
  • Twilight. I enjoyed the first in Stephanie Meyer's series. The second seemed to drag a bit, the third picked up my interest and the fourth, well, that was kinda creepy. Edward will always be more interesting than Bella but he was a bit stalkerish.
  • Favorite series: Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters, Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark, Lara Adrian's The Midnight Breed, Jim Butcher, Kim Harrison, J.R. Ward's Black Daggar Brotherhood, Jennifer Armintrout, Katie MacAlistair's Dark Ones, Lynn Vieh's Darkyn, P. C. Cast's House of Night, Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires.
Anime series/movies
  • Blood+ (2005)/Blood: The Last Vampire (2000) This series made me a huge fan and admirer of anime. The movie version was OK, I like the manga series. Chiropterans. Saya and Hagi are the ultimate vampire couple. An involved storyline, lots of action, and a warrior lady anyone would love to serve under. All those joining The Red Shield, line forms over there. The movie version from 2000 introduced Saya to us but varied from the series.
  • Vampire Knight/Vampire Knight Guilty (2008) See above.
  • Vampire Hunter D (1995)
  • Hellsing (2006) Dark, violent, moody, and those guns! Alucard was a master killer for a vampire himself. Cop turned vamp Victoria was campy and I wished she would wear a real shirt.
  • Trinity Blood. Have to watch the entire series.
  • Black Brotherhood. Short series, loved the characters, and great to look at.
  • Descendants of Darkness. My first foray in anime.
  • Chibi Vampire. Karin. A different kind of vampire.
  • Vampire Princess Miyu.
