Guest Post: Cowboy Inspiration

I was asked to share the inspiration for this story as my last blog post for my tour. It's been over a years since I first started imagining Amber and Colton. Like most of my books, I first imagined a single scene. It's often a piece from the middle of the book that is a turning point. In this case, it happened to be the beginning. 

In one of the opening scenes, Colton catches sight of Amber for the first time. At this point, she is a broken person trying to figure out how to put the pieces of her life back together. I think we all know how that feels. She can't figure out how to move forward, but she doesn't really have another choice. When he sees her, he is instantly attracted to her. Not simply because she is gorgeous, but because he sees a piece of himself in her. 

That scene, those pictures running through my head, is exactly what inspired the rest of the book. I let my characters do all the talking. They are sometimes hard to handle and refuse to do what I want. They get naked on the creek bank and then refuse to look at each other. They drive each other absolutely crazy and do stupid things that get them in trouble. It's why I love them and why I think you will too. 

About the author: Emily Cale spent the majority of her childhood as a visitor to the worlds of her favorite authors. With encouragement from her English teachers, she put pen to paper and began imagining her own stories. Preferring the fascinating lives of her characters, she majored in creative writing. When not lost in a manuscript or a good book, she enjoys crocheting, rock climbing, and playing board games. She currently lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with her husband and a very spoiled cat.
