Return of the Legacy Book Tour

BLURB: Three magical dimensions…Two mystical bloodlines…One undeniable destiny.

Born a magical empath, Logan MacKenzie has spent his life protecting his family from discovery. Evil has found them anyway. What begins as Logan’s search for answers on Earth becomes a race for survival in the magical dimension of Loci.

The battle to save those he cares about will reveal his true lineage—the bloodline of the Makir, one half of a pair of sentinels chosen to guard the mystical portals between dimensions. The price of his acceptance: a love he never imagined possible and a heartbreaking choice.

Her family attacked, her home destroyed, and now stranded on Loci, Briallen of Tir Thar, descendant of a magical race, has only to summon the power within her to return to her own dimension—or so she had hoped. Unfortunately, her powers aren’t cooperating, and the sorcerer bent on her family’s destruction will stop at nothing to possess her.

Raised without knowledge of the portals, the Makir guardians, or her own destiny, Bri takes a leap of faith in an alliance with Logan. Embracing an uncertain power and accepting his goals as hers offers her the only way home. If they fail, the consequences of allowing the portals to fall to evil are unthinkable—the destruction of every magical dimension throughout space.

Warning: This is a fantasy romance, containing magic, love, and courage. The omission of vampires and shapeshifters is intentional.

Character interview - Grainne by KH LeMoyne

Good day all and thank you to Reader Girls for having me post a character interview based on my book, Return of the Legacy - The Portals of Destiny Book 1. First, it would probably help if I offer a little background on the story.

The forbidden portals between Earth and all the magical dimensions have come under attack. Those few ancestors of the portal sentinels, the Makir and their partners, are the only beings with the power to control the portals. A hard task given that few know of these sentinels and even fewer Makir know of their legacy. But that situation must change before the evil mage in the world of Tir Thar reaches through space to end the legacy’s bloodline and secure his hold on eternity.

This mix of threat and intrigue pulls Logan MacKenzie, of Earth, and Briallen, of Tir Thar, from their homes to the foreign dimension of Loci. There, they must circumvent the trap set to kill them and pay a magical debt for use of the portals before finding their way home to save all they hold dear.

Interview with Grainne in the World of Loci on the magical Isle of Mull

Grainne: I’m still not certain how I can help you, Ms. LeMoyne. My lass Briallen and the Mackenzie clan are more important to the story than I am.

KH: But you found Briallen after she came through the portal into Loci. You brought her home and treated her with kindness for the last nine years. Why would you do that for a total stranger?

Grainne: She was but a child. With the rain and lightening that night…she was just this slender lost thing in the middle of the standing stones. There was naught else to do but take her home with us.

KH: She was a little older than a child.

Grainne nodded, her fingers twining in her lap, then she shrugged and offered me a raised chin and bold look.

Grainne: Aye. She was about the age I was when my bonny Nolan first brought my brother, Hefin, and me to the Isle and his clan. Ten and eight, I was. And now so many years later, with my wonderful Nolan now gone these last twelve years, I still know how it feels to be in a strange land. Taking the lass home wasn’t a burden. Briallen was a comfort. She filled my life. Hefin has a tender spot for her as well.

KH: How did you cover for having a stranger in your home for nine years? Surely that must have caused questions with the clansmen around you?

Grainne: T’was but a small tale we told. Nolan traveled far to bring me to my new home. He’d wed me sight unseen as a promise to the Laird. Hefin and I told others she was a relative who had found her way to us after her family’s death. Whether they suspected or not, they never let on. Hiding her powers took a bit more work.

KH: So you basically claimed her as family? But certainly Briallen wanted to go home?

Grainne: Aye, with such a fierce will she did. Hefin took her to every standing stone on the island and every fair and traveling market after that. The poor girl tried every small bit of magic she possessed to get back to her family. As the years passed, she’s never given up searching for some sign that her brothers arrived the same way she had.

KH: You’ve obviously grown very attached to her.

Grainne: She’s the child I never had. Nolan would have loved her dearly. Full of determination, but tempered with a kind heart she is. She doesn’t have my gift for the healing ways, but she’s let me pass on what I know just the same. With Hefin as well, though he first balked at training the lass to fight.

KH: And when Logan and his cousin showed up, what did you think of two more strangers in your small home? Did you consider they might be her brothers?

Grainne: I knew the moment I saw the way the man’s look followed her, there was no way he was her kin. But since he sought help for the ill child, I knew he carried no malice in his heart.

KH: You trusted him because he brought you a sick child?

Grainne: A stranger to him, the wee bairn was. It was the honorable thing to do and many of the clan would have done the same. But the MacKenzie wouldn’t leave that tiny lass until she was safe, until he gained her protection. Not many would do that. He took to my Briallen the same way, though his interest in her was a man’s care for a woman.

KH: How did Briallen take the two men’s sudden appearance?

Grainne: To her it was the sign her suffering was at an end. In truth, she was right on that score. But life doesn’t always bring what we envision. She only expected them to provide her a door home. For her sake, I was glad they delivered more.

KH: If you loved her so much, why did you let her leave with them?

The gray head bowed and I waited, feeling badly to have caused the woman pain with my question. But when she lifted her head and looked at me it was with a bright smile and glistening eyes.

Grainne: She was a great gift to me and she will be a great gift to those who need her desperately now. My love for her said to let her go and I followed my heart as I told her to follow hers.

KH: Thank you, Grainne

An excerpt from Return of the Legacy
It took several minutes for Logan’s pupils to adjust from sunlight to the interior of the cottage. Even so, it took several more minutes for Logan to interpret what he saw when he looked at the little girl. When he did, fear drove spikes through his muscles as he lunged across the room.

“No!”

A smoky glow, black and oily, clung to the girl’s face, seeping into her nostrils and the small crack between her lips. The black fabric quivered like a sick caress along her skin.

Without thinking, Logan tried to pull her to him. No clear plan of attack threaded through his thoughts, only the heart-pounding need to stop the evil infection from permeating the tiny body.

Instead, her body refused. A ton weight resisted his efforts to surround her with protection. The confused voices behind him rose as the child’s eyes snapped open. Red flames stared at him, a fierce, possessive force, hungry and angry at his interference.

Logan’s ring burned and glowed as he forced his hand to touch her face. His fingertips barely grazed her cheek when the child opened her mouth and roared. The hoarse projection of sound, a violent expulsion of energy, sent Logan flying backward across the room. His spine and head contacted with rock in a sharp, heavy crack that swept the air from his lungs. Body stunned but conscious, he turned his head as Bri dropped to her knees beside the twisting girl.

His mouth didn’t work to warn her.

Frozen, he could only watch while she strained to close the distance—two magnets repelling connection. The spikes of gold swirled in a fury around her, a merry-go-round of energy out of control, stronger than the blackness surrounding the girl. Tips of green and blue absorbed the fringes of the gold as a swath of bright red pulsed stronger and deeper within the core. She enclosed the girl in her arms and bent her face to the child’s neck. The variegated colors squeezed and pulsed. Each contraction of the womb around the girl forced the smoke to release and expel.

The evil struggled. The girl’s small limbs twitched with the battle. Bri held tighter. The colors around her brightened, clenched, and grew stronger.

  1. Wow sounds like a great book. Something besides the standard vampire and werewolf paranormals is always a bonus.

  3. I like character interviews. Thank you, Grainne. Of course, I'm not always very attentive when I read...I wonder if it would be challenging following the names and locations and the story line? I can get lazy when I read!
