Guest Post: How to be the new kid

Many of us have been the new kid at some point in time in our lives. Maybe a parent had to relocate for a job or you were an Army brat. Despite the reason, it is always an adjustment. How do you manage to break into the new world and find acceptance?

Sammy Lorre, the heroine in my novella, Love’s Long Shadow, fell from Heaven just a few months ago and she is struggling to find her place in the small town of Kemp, FL. Throw in a love interest that could be an evil minion from hell that wants to steal her soul, a body that is full of emotions she doesn’t understand or have control of, and you’ve got one stressful situation.

As a new author, I can relate to being the new girl. How do I market my book? What interesting things can I say to ‘wow’ people? Of course, I don’t have the added stress of having demons chase after me. Well, unless you count the evil Amazon ranking number that authors check obsessively.

Still, I enjoy socializing and LOVE meeting new people. Sammy just discovered the Internet and has been blog hopping, too. Here is what she had to say about meeting people online.

It’s so cool to have a way to connect with others. I can even chat with my brother via Skype when he is off hunting demons and saving the world. *rolls eyes* The only problem is that I can’t tell if I’m talking to a demon in disguise. I’d love to have a best friend here in Kemp to hang wit,h but not sure how to make new friends. Do I just start talking? I mean, how is it done here on Earth?

Okay, let’s try to help Sammy out. What can she do to make new friends at school?

If you would like to know more about Sammy’s life and the upcoming Battle for Souls series, check out Love’s Long Shadow.

About the author: Ciara is happily married and enjoys family time. She has learned to embrace chaos, which is a requirement when raising three boys, and utilizes the insanity to create stories not of this world including, Fantasy, Paranormal, Sci-Fi, and Young Adult Dystopian.

Her first love, besides her family, reading, and writing, is travel. She's backpacked through Europe, visited orphanages in China, and landed in a helicopter on a glacier in Alaska.

  1. Thanks so much for having me here today. I'm excited to meet some of your followers. Sammy might drop in after school today.

  2. My niece started as a freshman in college this year and had the same worries as Sammy. She was upset at first because her best friends went to a different college. I knew if she was just "herself" that she'd make friends FAST. Why? Because she is nice to everyone. I think that is the key. She will talk to anyone and she is genuine.

  3. Brinda, that is great advice. It's something I've tried to explain to my own children.
