Blog Tour Stop & Giveaway: 44 by Jools Sinclair

The witty and very funny author Jools Sinclair stops by today to talk about her latest novel, the mysterious and creepy, 44.

Here's the summary: Last year after falling through the ice, seventeen-year-old Abby Craig woke up from death.

But she woke into a world she barely recognizes. She can't see colors, memories have been erased, and her friends all hate her. And then there's Jesse, who she loves, but who refuses to forgive her the one mistake she made long ago.

Just when she thinks it can't get any worse, the visions begin. In them, she sees a faceless serial killer roaming the streets. While the police believe that there have been a lot of accidents in town lately, Abby knows differently. And she soon realizes that it's up to her to find him.

But to stop him, she'll have to confront more than just the killer. She'll have to face something else that was lost in those dark waters. The truth.

We welcome Jools Sinclair.

Hi, ReaderGirls!

First off, thank you so much for inviting me for a visit to your fabulous blog! I’m thrilled to be here!

How would you describe 44?
It’s a paranormal murder mystery romance with a heap of the unexpected mixed in!

What was your first creative spark for 44?
There were a few things that ignited that spark. Abby’s voice was very strong in my head and I was excited about her character and about her struggle. Another thing was that I really wanted to set the story here in Bend, because it’s a funky little city in Central Oregon with lots of great atmosphere.

Which character spoke to you first? Which character(s) were easy to write? Were any characters difficult to handle during the writing process?
Abby spoke first and I could hear and see her very well from the very beginning. I was really clear on her character, this high school senior, sad and lost, trying to make sense of everything after an accident completely left her a stranger in her own life. She doesn’t have all the pieces to the puzzle, but she also isn’t quite ready to face everything yet either. That’s a great character to write because there is so much there.

Kate and Jesse were both pretty easy too, as they were based on people I know!

The hardest to write, definitely, was the doctor. :)

How did the title for 44 come about?
It came to me one night, as I was working on a draft and I really liked it a lot. I thought it was
unique and mysterious.

From your blog we’ve seen pictures from area locales which have inspired you. What else can you say inspires you while you write?

Music inspires me quite a lot too, and I love listening to songs while I write. Mazzy Star, The Cure, and Josh Ritter are some of my favorites to listen to when I’m writing. Music stirs up emotions, so it really helps reaching places I want to get to when I’m writing.

With the emergence of eBook readers, what are your thoughts on publishing for today’s writers? Why did you take the independent author route? Any experiences along your travels you would like to share?
It’s such an exciting time to be a writer, and that’s all because of what’s going on with eBook technology, which is creating a revolution in the publishing industry. For the first time ever, writers have direct access to readers. I love being an Indie writer and decided to take this route because of everything it offers: freedom, control, and an opportunity to find readers.

Amanda Hocking was one of the pioneers in all this, showing the world that she could find hundreds of thousands of readers who love her work, regardless of the rejection letters she received from publishers.

An author being able to put her own work in the marketplace, find fans, and sell books is absolutely amazing!

What is your next book about? (We ask since 44 is receiving such good reviews and we figured you would have other stories to tell)
Well, right now I’m working on the sequel to 44. It’s a trilogy and Book 2 comes out in summer and then Book 3 should be out in winter. I have a few other projects, but am trying to hold off on those and focus on finishing up this trilogy while I have Abby’s voice in my head.

Where can fans find you online?
I recently started blogging… I’m not very good at it yet, but will hopefully get better! I would love for you and your readers to stop by, anytime!! You can find me here:
