Our review: Another solid historical novel I liked. There was a nice mix of mystery, suspense, secrets, some romance and eerie situations. The time period is the 19th century, the setting is Philadelphia. Rose, 18, is married and witnesses her friend's murder but she wonders if she was the intended victim. Her husband, a power hungry contractor, is the type of character readers just love to dislike. Typhoid has broken out and there is the suspicion that the water supply has been contaminated. As the story unfolds we wonder who is guilty and when Rose will be able to see her husband for who he truly is. Told in the alternating viewpoints of Rose and Sean, the author did a wonderful job of conveying their inner thoughts. Her use of language painted a lovely portrait of Philadelphia of the 19th century and the Water Works scenes were so convincing I could feel the moisture. I would recommend this novel for anyone who enjoys historical books with a well crafted mystery.

Cover comment: I love the colors, the scenery and the way the model is looking upwards in a thoughtful way. It's a different kind of cover and I appreciate it.
