Waiting on Wednesday

One title we're anxiously awaiting is The Devouring 3: Fearcape by Simon Holt. We love the colors used on these covers, especially this one. Here's the summary:

The Vours: evil, demonic beings that inhabit human bodies on Sorry Night, the darkest hours of the Winter Solstice. It's been a year since Reggie first discovered the Vours, and the Winter Solstice is approaching once again. It will be another night of unspeakable horror for those unlucky enough to be taken by the Vours, because this time, she won't be able to stop them. The Vours have imprisoned Reggie in a psychiatric hospital, where she is subjected to a daily routine of unfathomably sadistic experiments. Her life is a living Hell, but she won't give up. They attacked her brother. They killed her friend. And Reggie will never stop fighting back.



The very first book, The Devouring, was a deliciously dark and creepy story. We may have covered our eyes in parts but that doesn't mean we put the book down. The Vours are truly scary beings and we find ourselves rooting for Reggie in each installment. With the cliffhanger ending of #2: Soulstice, we look forward to seeing how Reggie gets out of the psych hospital. We're glad this book is being released in October--just in time for Halloween.

The publisher is Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. Page count is 240. Publication date is 10/5/2010.

    I love me some dark fiction! Sounds like I'll have to check this one out. But first, The Devouring... Great title BTW!

    Oh, I didn't know the cover for the third book was released. In fact, I didn't know there was going to be a thrid book.

My Review: Soulstice was the first book I finished for the new year. Holt has created a gripping, realistic horroriffic fantasy with likable characters, a female heroine we can root for, and a truly evil protagonist.
