Millbrook Book Festival Wrap-up

On Saturday we drove up to the lovely village of Millbrook to attend their third Annual Book Festival. The weather was gorgeous and the library where most of the events took place was wonderful.

We sat through quite a few discussions and listened to some great authors read--Eileen Charbonneau treated us to a fascinating Native American tale, K.L. Going read an excerpt from "The Liberation of Gabriel King" and Jennifer Donnelly (she wrote the award-winning "A Northern Light" and the upcoming fall title "Revolution", both Ya titles) and Aimee Friedman ("Sea Change," "The Year My Sister Got Lucky" and others) also read from their novels.

The last discussion of the day consisted of nine YA novelists speaking about how they got into writing.  Folk singer and  writer Dar Williams ("the "Amalee" series) was there, as were the four aforementioned authors we heard recite earlier, as well as Alisa Kwitney (author of the graphic novel "Token" which we really want to check out now and many others) and Susan Beth Pfeffer of the The Last Survivors trilogy. It was funny to hear her speak about her writing process and how she wrote "Life As We Know It" because she likes stories about families. When the book came out she chuckled at how it was labeled "dystopian" and "science fiction" while she just thought of it as her story. We really enjoyed the delightful Maya Gold tell us how her new MG series "Cinderella Cleaners" came about.

We left feeling informed and with  our bag full of books (some pictured above) personally autographed.
